Online Education Options for the iGeneration

07.13.2010 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

iGeneration, I’ve never used that term before, but it is totally fitting!  The iGeneration being the generation that my children are growing up with.  They have never known life without internet and wireless life!  More and more educators are taking notice of the learning opportunities that this can provide.

I was asked by MomSelect to check out Onlineschoolsolutions.com, an online learning site.  We ourselves have used an online school before.  The one we used was not a good fit for us, so I was curious to check out this one.

I was able to watch a session of students with a teacher and was pretty impressed.  It was fun!  The teacher was hilarious and I would have loved to have had a teacher like that when I was in school.  You can watch the session by clicking here, you will have to allow the download to view.

After watching the session I watched an overview of the curriculum used.  This was different than we had used with the online school we chose.   I learned that they use a curriculum called Aventa and that over 1,000 schools use this curriculum to extend core, elective and foreign language courses.  They also are using it to provide advanced placement AP exam review and provide credit recovery.  The curriculum looked to be more interactive and interesting than what I have seen before.  You can view the overview yourself by clicking here and then select media-rich curriculum.

I still don’t think online education is right for us, but it is right for many parents!  Those that want to homeschool but are not quite sure where to start, those that want the structure of a regular school as well as those that move a lot for their job such as military.  I am so happy that online schools are available as an option.

From the home-schooled family, the student brushing up on skills to compete at the next level or the child facing challenges in traditional schools such as bullying, KCDL provides academic solutions to fit your child’s needs. We welcome you to look through the website at www.onlineschoolsolutions.com, and then click on your state to find the KCDL online school serving your area.

I will receive a $20 Target gift card for my time to review www.onlineschoolsolutions.com.  All opinions are 100% my own.

I agree that this can be used as a great option for students. Our daughter does quite a bit of her school work on a computer. 3 subjects she does via cds, and one she does online. It works for us, and I like it because we travel a lot so we can school on the go 🙂
