5 Perks of Moving to Greenwich, CT

10.07.2021 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Connecticut is a wealthy state with many fascinating cities and areas. West Hartford and Ridgefield may offer delightful art museums, theaters, and playhouses, and Westport has a nice beach, but Greenwich does not fall short of being an ideal city. It boasts various benefits that can be a major draw.

Greenwich is among the oldest towns in Connecticut, and it has grown to be a vibrant area with great history and culture. It is also home to some major hedge funds management firms, making the coastal town the largest on Connecticut’s ‘Gold Coast.’

More than the opulence, Greenwich is also a town with such a charming New England atmosphere made warmer by communities in it. If you are moving to Connecticut, specifically in the Greenwich area, there are some great perks you will come to discover and enjoy, including:

1. You are Close to NYC

Greenwich is close to New York City and is only about 40–60 minutes away when traveling by train. Travel time may vary, but some express trains will be faster, only taking 40 minutes to reach the Grand Central Station. With this, working or doing business in the city will never be a problem. In fact, this significant benefit influenced some wealthy New Yorkers to move to Greenwich too.

Due to its proximity to New York, Greenwich’s large population is also not a surprise. The town has four train stations to cater to the number of commuters. These stations are located at Greenwich, Cos Cob, Riverside, and Old Greenwich. But if you feel like driving, you can easily take Interstate 95 and the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) to get to NYC by car.

2. Park Amenities

Greenwich may be a coastal area, but it also has a lot of greenery and beautiful parks where you can pause and relax for a while, jog, meditate, have a picnic and bond with your family. It offers a calm feel while still being close to city life. The most beautiful parks in Greenwich include Bruce Park, located just across the Bruce Museum, and just a 5-minute walk from Greenwich Station.

The Greenwich Point Park, Montgomery Pinetum, and Audubon Center are also worth visiting. Greenwich has a lot of public spaces as well as preserved environmental areas, where you can wander around, hike, ride a bike and explore. Take note that some parks and beaches in Greenwich may require an entry pass, especially for visitors. Residents are entitled to a seasonal pass, but their residency must be verified.

3. The Weather

Greenwich experiences all of the seasons, so this is something you should be excited about and prepared for. Living in the town at the southmost point of New England means you get to have the full experience, from the chilly air and russet foliages of autumn to the snowy winters, as well as the blooming springtime down to the warm and fun summer.

Therefore, plan your calendar wisely. Make sure to set activities that fit the weather to get the most out of every experience, from beach trips to the park walks, museum tours of cafe and restaurant hopping, among many others. Just prepare the right clothes and make sure your new home can withstand all weather conditions.

4. More Affordable

Despite Greenwich being listed among the richest towns in the U.S., it is also in the top 10 most affordable areas to live in Connecticut. Property taxes are significantly lower in Greenwich compared to close suburban areas of NYC. There are also efforts to make affordable housing more available in Greenwich. Living in this town will allow you to conveniently work in cities while getting access to quality schools and relevant employment with a lower spending requirement for your home.

This allows you to save money that you can allot for unexpected expenses, emergencies and home maintenance or improvement. For example, you can utilize ????Greenwich pest control, flood services, or handymen without worrying about breaking the bank. There are always unexpected costs with homeownership, and it’s important to be prepared.

5. Shopping and Dining

When it comes to leisure and recreation, there is no lack of restaurants or shops in Greenwich. Greenwich Avenue, or “The Avenue,” is the town’s high street lined with stores of top brands which will entice you to shop. If you’re not fond of lavish shopping, there are also affordable brands to check out in the area and activities like yoga and even delightful cafes and restaurants.

If you aim to explore other areas of the town in search of mind-blowing cuisines, Greenwich has a great assortment of restaurants ready to satisfy your cravings. Aux Délices, Bistro V, Elm Street Oyster House, Thomas Hekelman, and By the Way Bakery are some places you should not miss. It’s all there for you, from fine dining to casual bistro-style cafes and even ice cream parlors.

There’s More Greenwich to Discover

Moving to a new place, in general, is both fun and excruciatingly disconcerting. But with all that Greenwich, CT, can offer, the move will be worth it. This affluent town has a great range of amenities, but it is a big town with such rich culture, and there is so much more left for you to discover.
