Motorola Droid Exploding Phone?

12.03.2010 by Girl on Fire // 6 Comments

My dad just called me because they knew that I had bought a new smart phone, the HTC EVO 4G Android Phone (Sprint).  I Love love love this phone, but that’s another post.

Anyhow, they thought I should know about this exploding Motorola Droid phone!  So I had to look it up.  I was surprised to see that this was something that happened locally in the Dallas area.

The news reports I have read do not really go into much detail and I am curious on how it is going with the investigation as to how this happened.  It’s so scary to think of talking on a phone and then it exploding on your face!  I think if I had the Droid I would be using it on the speakerphone option from now on until they get this all figured out!

The Texas man said that he was making a phone call when he heard a “pop”.  At that moment he says he didn’t feel any pain and set the phone down.  Then he felt the dripping of blood.  Ew.  This was a Motorola Droid which he had just purchased a few days before.  The face of the phone is broken and there is blood on it.  Apparently his hearing is not damaged and he just had to get a few stitches.  How did this happen though?  Was it the battery?

You can read more about this here and here. Thoughts?  On one of those links it says that a mobile “expert” says he has doubts about it happening that way and that it was must likely caused by the user.  Really?  How do you make your phone blow up?

In the news video I watched it said that they were thinking about suing….really?  Come on! Your not dead, your not permanently injured. Why sue?  You have a few freaking stitches in your ear.  Things happen.  Sue happy people are a major flaw in this world of ours. Get over it and have them send you a new phone and pay for your hospital visit.  I am sure they would be willing to work something out with you without you suing them.

Some people see a freak accident others see dollar signs I guess?

We have friend who listened to talk radio most of the day about this. He said they were saying that Motorola checked out the phone thoroughly after this incident and there was no way this happened to him. They think he tampered with the phone purposefully and then did something to his ear like fake blood or something. Then, made a really BIG issue out of it just so he could sue them. They really think he planned out the whole thing just so he can get money out of them.

This is talk radio talking though.

MINIONS In Theaters July 10

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time.  Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters.  Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.
