Starting next week, two schools in San Antonio, Texas, are planning to begin tracking and monitoring over 4,200 students using RFID microchipped cards. Unless we convince Jay High School and Jones Middle School to rethink their plans, students will be required to participate in the technology trial beginning August 27.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a controversial technology that uses tiny microchips to track items from a distance. These RFID microchips have earned the nickname “spychips” because each contains a unique identification number, like a Social Security number for things, that can be read silently and invisibly by radio waves.
Over 40 of the world’s leading privacy and civil liberties organizations have called for a moratorium on chipping items like ID cards because the technology can be used to track people without their knowledge or consent.
Please join us in spreading the word that RFID tracking violates expectations of reasonable privacy and threatens civil liberties in our schools.
We are looking for parents, students, and other stakeholders, especially those in the Northside Independent School District of San Antonio, who oppose student tracking. We can also connect you with other stakeholders who have planned a public protest to underscore the serious privacy, safety, and civil liberties dangers associated with RFID tracking technology.
The protest is currently scheduled for Monday, August 27th at Jay High School. We will meet at 7:30am and again at 3:30pm, though these plans are subject to change.
If you are interested in participating and/or supporting this event, please contact us at sanantonio@spychips.com. You are also welcome to join our Facebook page. We will be updating information throughout the weekend.
A copy of our position paper is available at http://www.spychips.com and has been endorsed by Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), FoeBuD e.V., Big Brother Awards, Germany Constitutional Alliance, PrivacyActivism, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), to name a few.
Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts.

I am absolutely against a law requiring children to be microchipped. It is against our rights, and I would remove my child from that school and move if I had to do so!!!
