Memorial Day may look a little different for those used to celebrating away from home, leaving town to spend it with family and friends, or celebrating somewhere with big crowds and loud parties.

If you’re used to spending Memorial Day weekend away and are planning on spending it at home this year, don’t feel like you can’t create your own fun. Here are some ideas to create your own holiday fun with your family in your own backyard.
Family BBQ
Memorial weekend always involves a barbecue at somebody’s house. If you’re not quite ready to take part in social gatherings, fire up the grill and make a feast for your family.

Be sure to make the menu ahead of time so you have an opportunity to hit the grocery store and get everything you need. If you find yourself looking for something last minute, be sure you go early in the morning when stores are freshly stocked.

This might mean taking your little one with you if you don’t have someone else at home that can watch him. If this is the case, make sure to take your Binxy Baby shopping cart cover, some gloves, and a facemask for you and your little one. The earlier, the better so you can avoid large crowds.
Luau
Take the barbecue a step further and turn your backyard into a luau. Some small touches like string lighting, backyard torches, flower leis, garlands, and tropical centerpieces can transform your yard into a fun destination.

Take it even a step further and let your little ones get dressed up in little girls summer dresses, or a pair of shorts with matching button-up shirts for boys and dad.

If you want the whole family to coordinate, it’s a great excuse for you to shop for women’s dresses that will make for the best Instagram pictures.
Water activities
If you’re used to laying out by a resort pool, spending the weekend at a lake house, or taking the kids to the waterpark, you should think about adding a splash mat and a Slip N’ Slide so you can still incorporate water activities into your weekend.

You can even add an inflatable pool for the kids and an inflatable hot tub for the adults to relax in. Give everyone their own water gun and you can have a water fight against each other.

It may not be as fancy as the other options you’re used to in previous years but it can still be fun to spend the day with family doing something new together.
Camping and a movie
If you’re used to camping for the weekend, you can still do it in style. Pitch a tent outside, set up an outdoor projector, and watch a movie under the stars while making s’mores over your fire pit or portable grill.

The best thing about camping in your own backyard is that you have all the amenities you need while spending time outdoors with the ones you love.

No matter what you decide to do, the most important part of the holiday is that you’re able to spend it with the ones you love while remembering the loved ones you may have lost.
