The martial arts are ancient fighting styles that teach the practitioner not only how to defend themselves and their loved ones, but will train the mind and body to act in complete harmony, developing physical fitness and self confidence. Most martial arts originated from Asia but are now practiced all over the world, different martial arts styles include judo, karate, kung fu and Brazilian jiu jitsu.
Although beginning martial arts training can benefit people of any age, it is probably those who start training as children that will get the most reward from their training.
In a modern world that seems to often glorify violence with exposure coming from all kinds of media, from video games to the latest blockbuster movies, it may seem a bad idea to enroll a child in a school teaching fighting arts, but children who do start martial arts training will not only be more active and learn valuable self defense, they will also learn the true values of respect, self discipline, comradeship and of course it is great fun as well. Lessons that are learned in a martial arts school will stand a child in good stead for all aspects of their lives.
Physical Fitness
Obviously martial arts training is a very physical activity and even a child who is not particularly sporting will find their training a fun way of getting fitter. These days kids tend to lead less active lives with the popularity of video games and other media and it can often be hard to encourage them to become more active. Martial arts training can be the kick start to a whole new way of living for your child that will see them grow into fitter and stronger young adults.
Self Defense
Unfortunately bullying is still far too common in modern society, it does not even have to be physical bullying, just the threat of violence or intimidation can leave a mental scar on a child. Martial arts training will mean a child will feel empowered against anyone who tries to pick on them and just knowing that they can defend themselves if needed, means they may never actually have to resort to physical violence. Many martial arts schools recognize this and have anti-bullying classes as part of their curriculum. If you think this could be beneficial for your child and is something that they may enjoy, you can search ‘professional bjj for kids near me‘ online to find the best tutor in your area to teach these classes.
Self Confidence
Any child who trains in the martial arts will grow more self confident as their training progresses. As they learn new techniques and acquire new skills their confidence will grow immeasurably, especially when their hard work is rewarded as they pass the next belt grading. Just knowing that they are reaching the goals that are set for them will improve their self confidence in all aspects of their lives.
Respect and Self Discipline
From the outset of their martial arts training, respect and self discipline will be instilled into children. The training will require mental focus to enable to concentrate in learning new techniques safely and correctly. The self discipline that they acquire in their martial school will transfer into over areas of their lives, such as at home and in school. Every martial student is taught the importance of respecting the art they are learning, their instructors, the martial arts school and their fellow students. Bowing and other traditional formalities are all part of the training. Even the unruliest of children have learned the importance of showing respect in order for others to treat them with respect in return.
Children and adults alike can find an array of training gear at the Martial Art Shop.

I agree 100% with this – martial arts isn’t just about fighting, it’s also about improving one’s self-confidence and fitness level. And of course it’s very important to be able to defend yourself, especially in this day and age. I unfortunately started late but I’m glad my son has show interest and would like to start BJJ.
