How To Make Sure You Keep Your Family Safe Over The Summer Months

05.14.2018 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

As summer approaches, it’s important to know the very best ways to keep yourself and your family safe. Safety should be upheld throughout the year, but some people are more inclined to take risks when the weather inspires them to be increasingly more carefree. Keep your family safe by using your common sense for the most part and staying aware of potential risks and dangers around every bend. You cannot overprepare when it comes to safety, so approach all of your summer activities with caution so that you can have the most fun possible and continue to remain safe and well.

Summer

Road Safety

The later evenings often inspire groups of friends to enjoy each other’s company by having BBQ’s and enjoying more than one beer together. Be especially careful of driving at sunset and in the late evening as some drivers might be driving under the influence. This is incredibly dangerous and illegal, but you must be aware that it happens and ensure that you never take part in this behavior. If you know that you’re driving to an event, then just don’t take the risk. If you want to have a drink, then allocate a sober driver for the night or rely on calling a taxi to take you home at the end of a night. If you’re injured at the hands of a drunk driver or involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault, then turn to Dennis Hernandez & Associates, PA for experienced and professional advice.

Diet

Limit how much sugar your children consume, and remember that it soon adds up if they have sweet treats and ice creams over the summer months. Give your kids pieces of fruit to eat if they’re craving sugar, and consider making them fruit and vegetable smoothies to keep them feeling full and energized for breakfast. Add bananas and yogurt to achieve a thick consistency and add ice cubes to make it cooling and refreshing.

Sun Safety

Keep your family safe in the sun by being prepared for hot weather and humid conditions. Always ensure that you take water for yourself and your family, and be prepared for long car journeys by taking a cool box of bottles in the trunk of your car. Pack a bag of essentials and take a first aid kit complete with plasters and antihistamines, water, and sun cream. If you have very young children, then use sunblock on them and keep them out of the sun. Apply plenty of sun cream at regular intervals throughout the day, and don’t stay longer than fifteen minutes in the direct sun without taking a break to cool down inside or in the shade.

Staying Hydrated

Staying hydrated is easy as long as you remember to pack bottles and sip water throughout the day. Dehydration can be very serious, so don’t take chances and stock up on drinks for you and your family. If you have trouble getting your children to drink water, then add a few drops of squash to water to flavor and sweeten it. Keep this to a minimum as squashes are often full of sugar. Remember to replenish water reserves after working out as you’ll lose water through sweating. Drink packed with electrolytes can help you get back on track if you’re engaging in intense physical activity.
