We all love a lie-in sometimes. No matter how rare the occasion is, nothing beats going to bed without setting the alarm. Let’s say it’s Friday night, and your kids are both at friend’s houses. Finally, you can lay down and slip into oblivion for as many hours as your exhausted body needs.
But, then, seven in the morning rolls around, and you can’t get back to sleep for the life of you. You toss and turn, but no matter how hard you try, your eyes spring awake. Just like that, your dreams of a decent sleep fly out of the window. Instead, you spend the morning doing all those things you were so glad to put off.
It can be a devastating waste of a peaceful morning. You may feel even more exhausted the next night because of it. But, we might have a solution. We would argue that your bedroom is the reason for your lack of lie-in potential. A bedroom you can love, after all, would allow you to sleep until you’re satisfied. With that in mind, we’re going to look at why your room doesn’t serve this purpose, and what you can do to change that.
You let too much light in
Light is any lie-ins worst enemy. While the streaming morning rays may be your lifesaver during the week, they ruin your weekends. You can bet that, the moment the sun rises, you will too. That’s just a little thing called ‘the body clock’. Luckily, there’s an easy solution. By installing blinds instead of curtains, you can ensure it’s dark as night in your bedroom all morning. That can make your lie-in exponentially better. If you’re worried about this impacting your ability to get up in the week, why not pair a blind/curtain combo? This is sure to look fantastic and serve all your needs.
You aren’t as comfortable as you should be
Being uncomfortable is another reason for waking up too early. If your mattress and pillows were as good as they should be, you’d be able to slip straight into a peaceful sleep at any time of day. If, however, your mattress is uncomfortable and your pillows are hard, you’re sure to struggle. Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to work out what to do here. Update your bedroom furniture to make sure you’re powerless against sleep the moment you lay down!
You can’t stop looking at the clock
Putting a clock in your bedroom is, frankly, a decor no-no. For one, the ticking of those hands can drive you mad when you’re trying to sleep. For another, this can stop any chance of your getting lie-ins. When you’re staring at the clock every half an hour, there’s no way your mind will be able to settle back into sleep. So, get rid of that clock already. Instead, replace it with a calming art print, or a picture of loved ones which can soothe you back to sleep at any time.
