Robotics is kind of a new trend. I mean, they’ve been around for a while, but only really for adults. Technology has made massive bounds over recent times though, meaning robotic tools are available and simple enough to be used by children. This can be a huge advantage for them. Let’s take a look at why.
Robotics at Work
Robotics are sure to be essential to our world in the future. We already know and have accepted that robots are going to become more frequent in the workplace. So if jobs are going to robots instead of humans, how is that a good thing? Well, it also created more jobs. Different jobs. Somebody has to create the robots in the first place. After that, there will be a lot of need for quality control, maintenance and repair work. Even modification is possible and likely for robot workers.
These could all become popular and sought-after occupations. Yet there isn’t currently much training available for these people, so it’s a good idea to give our children some of these skills early on. Even if they don’t decide to go into a robotics related occupation, the chances of having robotics around the house is going to be very likely in the future. With robotics toys for boys already being a thing, and gadgets like the Amazon echo and vacuum robots, we are already well on the way.
Learning, Creativity and Independence
It isn’t just about the robots either. There are a whole variety of skillsets associated with robot building and tinkering. Of course, your child’s creativity and independence will increase, both of which are great skills to have. Alongside this, while they may see it as playing with their toys, our children are actually experimenting and learning via trial and error. Most successful businesspeople would refer to trial and error, or learning by doing, as the key to their success. After all, planning is great, but it’s executing the plan which actually gets people to their destination.
Another point is how much knowledge will be needed to build and code a robot effectively. Your child is going to need independent learning skills to figure all of this out, again a very valuable trait to have in adult life. With independent learning, you can figure anything out. How do you get good at this? By doing it, regularly. Childhood interests in robotics are very likely to bring this about.
Community & Teamwork Skills
Most high-flyers have to work in teams, even if they are leading the team. Robotics reflects this very well, as even young children can be part of a multi-person project. Learning how to work together, effectively communicate, and how a team can split tasks to maximize productivity, are all essential life skills.
In addition, the nature of robotics means creations can be useful to the overall community. Getting into the habit of exhibiting or even marketing their creations can be a wonderful thing for children. It gives them first-hand experience and also confidence in their ability. It’s easy to see how these will help them in the long-run.
Of course, there are many other advantages too, though these are some of the clearest and biggest ones. With this in mind, why wouldn’t you want to get your child into robotics? At best they’ll gain massive advantages. At worst they’ll have some entertaining and educational new toys.
