Kid’s Club – A Great Trip to the Cinema {Guest Post}

10.15.2012 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

As I’m sure many of you also find, going to the cinema with small children can be an extremely testing experience.

Working out which film everyone wants to see, getting the whole family out of the house on time and then trying to avoid the inevitable squabble over sweets and treats, is one of the reasons we rarely visit the theatre anymore – even though my husband and I used to love a trip to the pictures.

However, recently I stumbled across an advert for the kid’s club at our local cinema and decided that this may be a good opportunity to get our youngest children a good taste of the big screen.

The club itself is set up to let young children, typically between the ages of three and twelve, experience films as they were meant to be seen, at a decent price and accompanied by responsible adults. The cinema we visited didn’t allow children in unaccompanied by an adult, or vice versa, and I’m sure that this is the same for most kid’s film clubs around the country.

The film we’d actually decided to go and see was one that we had heard a lot about but hadn’t yet seen – Despicable Me. So after a brief journey in our new car, click here to have a look at the vehicles my better half has been obsessing over for the past few months, we arrived and made our way to our seats.

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from the whole experience, but was pleasantly surprised. Rather than just being a room of tiny children crying their eyes out as young mums had a good catch up, we were part of screening that was entirely captivated by a great film.

It also turned out to be a really great environment to watch a film in. With no teenagers making a huge amount of noise, bored couples chatting or people making out on the back row, we were treated to a proper cinema experience.

My one concern with this would be how much this was the choice of film and how much was the influence of the kid’s club. Either way, it’s an experience that is well worth trying out with your young ones, particularly if there’s a film you know the whole family will be able to enjoy altogether.
