Kidproofing The Computer Giveaway!

02.23.2009 by Girl on Fire //

Comments are now closed 3/9/09

bufferzone-logoThe kid’s are begging you to get on your computer, but you are super busy.  You say OK, even though you can not sit there the whole time monitoring everything that is going on…..you really have to get dinner made.  Little Sally really want’s to download the super cool Sponge Bob desktop wallpaper and your not there to ask…..so….she clicks download.

Scenario two…

You are working at your computer and have been working for hours just trying to get done.  You suddenly can not sit there any longer….you  have got to pee, so you run to the bathroom.  You’ll be quick…it will be ok.  The kid’s are napping right?  Wrong, just when you leave the room your sweet little toddler see’s his chance.  The computer…unattended, Mommy is out of site…..

CLICK…CLICK…CLICK…CLICK

You come back to the room just as it happens…the download has already begun!  You frantically try to cancel, but it’s no use….it won’t stop!

What happens next could be left in the hands of luck, maybe it was a safe file…maybe it wasn’t.  Or, you could just relax because you know you have a BufferZone!

bufferzoneImagine a safe little bubble in your computer, someplace where everything downloaded resided until you knew it was a safe file.  Well, that is exactly what the BufferZone is.  It is a safe place for those files to be contained where they can not access your computer files!  They can’t hurt you there.  Your safe!  Relax mama!

The following is taken from the BufferZone website:

Because BufferZone Pro separates files and applications, Trojan horses containing key loggers and other malicious code are not able to access sensitive areas of your PC (such as your “My Documents” and similar folders) to try and steal your passwords or violate your privacy.

You can safely download, share, import, or run any file or program from any source while remaining confident that they can never harm your actual PC.

How rad is that? I was able to try out this software myself and I was quite impressed. I do a lot of downloading so it took a bit of getting used to, but after a day of use I had it.  I just had to remember the files were in pergatory!  After I got the hang of that idea it was easy peasy!

So guess what happens now?  I get to give away this software to one lucky family!

I’m telling you, if you have children using the computer this is an amazing thing to have on your computer! Shoot, not even just kids…just a not so technical spouse or family member and this will make you feel much safer!

How do you enter?

Tell me why you need this software. I want to hear your computer mayhem stories! They can be about your kids and the computer, your husband and the computer, your own hairbrained antics on the computer…heck even about the time your Grandma tried to use the computer!

LOOK HERE!  Now it is EASIER TO ENTER

How about you have all of these ways to enter..you can do whichever you like….all of them if you like!

One time, my brother asked to borrow my computer so he could check his email. His computer was in the shop getting the monitor repaired. I let him use my computer and right before he was finished with it, he called me over and said “Uh, I think I accidently gave your computer a virus.” He had downloaded something from his email that did indeed contain a virus. So my computer ended up sitting right next to his in the repair shop. If I had that software I could have avoided that. Also, I have a 6 year old who is currently learning about computers in school and is already fascinated by them. So hopefully I can get that software and I can rest easy.

Does this lock the computer so that if you step away they can’t delete your files too???

As far as I know the answer is no, but please check the website for more information. Basically what it does is creates a special little bubble in your computer where all downloaded files go and hang out until you decide to move them. In this bubble they can not harm your computer or access your files.

With six boys, oh the downloads are like a mountain of soap suds coming out of the washing machine. Everything just continues to pile up….seems the more you clean up the more that is coming.

    I definitely need this software!

With my husband’s activities adn three small children at home, this would be a great asset to the computer. If something accidently downloads, or purposefully, it gets set aside for further review prior to actual use. What a way to safe guard your kids, you, and the computer! With two kids playing on the computer for free time and school, it would bring some much needed peace.

As my children (ages 9 & 6) get on the computer more & more often, I need to do everything I can to protect them AND my computer! This looks like a perfect program for helping to do that!

I hope this protects against JS popups and attempts of sites to download code until you can approve it, or throw it out. I sometimes visit game sites and need something like this. Sometimes Virtumone/Vundo wants to try to get into my computer at a couple places and Virtumonde can end up in this little “box” and be tossed out easily.

People have had a h### of a time with Virtumonde and couldnt get it all the way out. So I would love to have protection against something like this. I am currently terrified of Vundo/Virtumonde. I,ve heard that some people have had to format their computer over Virtumonde/Vundo.

IF I win, devonm @ sasktel dot NET

I have twittered this and made a post at the other thread about this and explained why I need this software, to see if I can protect against the most feared- Virtumonde/Vundo.

I would like to win this for my children. They have boys who will be reaching the age where they should have some control. It’s a computer world now and there is everything out there. Thanks for having the wonderful giveaway.
