When you are raising a family, working a full-time job, and keeping a home, it’s tempting to congratulate yourself just for keeping your own sanity! Things begin to fall by the wayside in our busy lives. We make concessions to others where maybe we shouldn’t, we let self-image fall by the wayside, and we continue in this cycle until we wake up one day and we don’t recognize the person we see in the middle.
So what can you do about it now?
The first and most vital step to improving your self-image is identifying whether you need the guidance of a doctor. If you feel hopeless or like there is no getting out of an endless rut you’ve fallen into, you should seek the guidance of your doctor and a psychiatric professional.
But if you are just looking to improve your self-image for a pick-me-up, there are several ways you can take action today to boost it. Here are 5 actionable ways to improving your self-image today!
Prioritize and Invest in Self-Care
Self-care is one of those nebulous terms people throw around so much that it has kind of lost its meaning. Sometimes people use the term to justify wild indulgences (usually purchases) that they would never otherwise consider.
Not that you don’t deserve a wild indulgence from time to time! But that isn’t a good way to improve your self-image in the long term.
Self-care is something you do that benefits your health and well-being in the long-term. I repeat: it benefits YOUR health. It is doubly important for busy moms and wives to remember that we all need to make time for ourselves. Your self-care should be about YOU. I’m not advocating for selfishness, however, it is important that the thing you designate as self-care should be centered around you.
To keep your self-image high over time, you should prioritize and invest in self-care. When I say invest, I don’t necessarily mean money. This refers to time, as well. It doesn’t need to be a big commitment: ten or fifteen minutes a day for yourself is a great and manageable goal.
Skincare is a great way to make time for self-care. It’s something most of us already do, in some way or another. If you’re washing your face at night, you’re already participating in some fashion. Enhance your everyday routine with some luxury products or special serums targeting a problem you’ve long thought about but haven’t don’t anything for. To really amp up the pamper factor, ritualize this into an AM or PM routine.
Make Long-term Changes
Sometimes, your self-image can be linked to something which has become stagnant over time or something you no longer want to identify with. Those of us who threw ourselves into being full-time moms when our kids were very young might struggle to reconcile that with our new free time once our kiddos go to school.
There is an opportunity here. Identify what, exactly, is making you dissatisfied with your self-image as it stands today. Are you feeling drab all around? Has your appearance remained the same over time?
While a new skincare routine really can improve your skin, you can make more noticeable changes if you so choose, too. Some women treat themselves to a new tattoo. Others will treat themselves to a breast augmentation, which is said to improve the self-image of women who have received them.
Always take care that you are not making choices out of fleeting feelings of inadequacy as opposed to a genuine desire to take the plunge when it comes to life-altering decisions. Find out more information at https://revivology.com/surgical/breast-augmentation/.
Set and Meet a New Goal
An easy way to improve your self-image incrementally is to set a new goal and work to meet it on a daily basis. Perhaps you have a changing goal that is different each day, or perhaps your goal is one that you work towards overtime.
Either way, it is easy to feel good about yourself when you have accomplished something. No matter how large or small, tasks that you complete will cultivate self-esteem a little more every day. This feeling will compound, and your self-image will slowly become one of a person who gets things done.
Exercising is a double-whammy when it comes to feelings of accomplishment. Not only is exercise an admirable goal to work towards doing every single day, but exercise is closely linked towards better moods overall. Redecorating or refurbishing your home is another good way to improve self-image. We express ourselves through our living spaces. You want your home to be a reflection of the self-assured boss you are looking to become! Take on smaller home renovation projects, like reupholstering a couch or incorporating more art into the home, before you start knocking down the walls of your kitchen to make an open floor plan.
