So I’m well on my way to becoming a real homemaker at the age of 36. Yes, I know I’m a late starter. Better late than never right?
So If you read my post about Bountiful Baskets you know that I picked up 12 six ounce packages of Blackberries for $16!
Since this was my first time canning I did have to make a small investment to get started. I picked up everything I needed at Walmart since I needed it right then. I needed a Water-Bath Canner, half pint jars, Ball Blue Book (this is a must have in my opinion! Everything is in this book!), Canning Tools, and Extra Lids. That about covered it!
I made Blackberry Preserves from the recipe in the Ball Blue Book. Very simple…Black berries and Sugar! That is it y’all! No chemicals, dyes, preservatives. Just all natural goodness!
It was so easy and they taste amazing!! My kids have been loving them and I feel good about giving it to my family knowing exactly what is in it and that I created it with my own hands in my own home. This is step one in my journey into becoming a real homemaker!

Wow 36 lbs, that’s insane. I bought apples from an orchard once with the intention of baking with them but we ate most of them before we even got home LOL

We love strawberry jam around here…patiently waiting for the strawberries to be ripe! Can’t wait! Great job with the preserves.

I’m so tempted every week to get the add-ons! Blackberry Preserves sounds delish…although I’ve always been a little too freaked about the amount of sugar most jam recipes call for.
