Being successful business owners is not easy! We have been running our own businesses for years and it is constant work.
Everything is always changing and you have to change with the times and try to keep up. I feel like I am constantly researching successful business owners to see what they are doing and what I need to improve on.
We struggle most with keeping our names out there! Social media is pretty much a must these days and that too is ever-changing. I feel like as soon as I get a handle on it, it changes again!
When I look at successful business owners like Rusty Tweed, I want to know how he keeps it going and in front of people. Seriously, that is a big part of it all.
One thing that is super important is having a budget and sticking with it. You can try using a free budget template. I use the free ones myself! Why spend money on them if you can use these free ones that do the same job?
Also, just practicing good business is super important. Great customer service and communication are very important for making successful business owners.
There is nothing that bothers me more than bad communication! Seriously! Please communicate with your customers! Waiting for answers will make me hightail it and find someone else to work with.
Being the best at what you do is also very important. You can not pick up a tool of trade and just decide that is what you do now. You have to educate yourself and learn everything about it and then KEEP ON LEARNING!
The learning never stops! I’m a photographer and I started way back in the days of film photography. I had to constantly progress and learn with all of the changes. Transitioning over to digital was CRAZY because at first the DSLR cameras were so expensive and it also meant learning software etc. Things that we did not do as photographers way back when.
I am still learning every single day! Editing styles change constantly, people want a certain look and all of that is always going to change.
For Jeremy, being a custom cabinet builder, he also has to keep up with changes. New methods for saving time and saving customers money is super important.
Also, for him, new equipment and tools. Changes in design trends. Seriously we are always educating ourselves on the changes within our industries.
I would love to have the time to add in actual courses to keep up with the times, but even that gets outdated quickly. Being parents we don’t have time to continuously go to school. Also, I really don’t like school. I am more of a DO it and learn at the same time kind of person. Fake it until you make it? Ha, it works for me!
But really, it isn’t easy. There are highs and lows. A lot of lows sometimes. but you have to stick it out. You can not quit! If you quit you will never ever make it. Be aware of the changes within your industry. You have to keep up if you are outdated no one will want to hire you.
Also, social media…we can definitely hate it, but these are the times we live in and it is necessary to have a good social media presence to succeed these days.
Good luck to all of you!
