How I Shop With the Kids…

10.01.2009 by Girl on Fire // 4 Comments

looneyOur latest conversation is about making shopping fun as well as educational with the kids.  For us I make it a goal with my older daughter to save money while shopping healthy.  She knows that making things from scratch is usually the healthier and cheaper option.  The little ones have fun by helping to pick out their very own special fruits and vegetables.  They want to grow big and strong and know that healthy food will help them get there.

We always start in the Fruits and Veggies and work our way around.  I usually skip the cookie and soda aisles.

How do you navigate the grocery store with your kids?

I bring the Nintendo DS for the big kids usually. It keeps them entertained and in the basket because they cant walk around playing. The baby is easy when it comes to grocery shopping!

We don’t really do video games, but for kids that like them that is a good way to keep them entertained. I wonder how they would do if you gave them a calculator instead to add up your groceries!

That might only work with Madison since she is older and is learning about money right now in school.

We do have a spanish DS game though where they learn Spanish and a Math Blaster game which does math..so not all games are bad! 😉
