As parents, we all have hopes and dreams for our children. My hope and dream for my children is to simply be happy with life. I want them to always know that they can do pretty much anything that they put their mind to. I say pretty much because I don’t want them thinking they can fly if they decide to jump off of a building simply because they put their mind to it. I am talking about reasonable things.
When I saw The Odd Life of Timothy Green there were some moments in the movie that I really connected with. There is a part in the movie where Timothy is playing soccer and he isn’t doing all that well, but he is smiling and he is happy. The coach is irritated, but when he sees Timothy smiling he asks him “Why are you smiling?” and Timothy says “I can only get better!” This totally sounds like me. Whenever my kids are trying something and they get upset because it isn’t perfect, I always tell them that they can only get better.
I have been trying to help Morgan to find things that she is really in to, things that make her truly happy. We tried Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Scouting, etc. Nothing was meshing for her. Then it happened. Recently she fell in love with Roller Derby. I have to admit, I think Roller Derby is pretty awesome. If I could get my medical issues under control I would totally do it. So when Morgan expressed an interest we went for it!
I have to admit I was nervous. But seeing her out there at her first bout, in front of hundreds of people and truly seeing her really enjoy herself was an amazing moment for me! It was the first moment I have ever truly witnessed her 100% into something.

A lot of people are in shock that my daughter skates in Derby. But for her it has become her passion. When we showed up for her first Derby practice she was so nervous. She said “I’m not going to be any good, all the kids are going to be better than me.” I told her that everyone starts somewhere and that she would only get better with practice. You know what? She was good from the start! Her coaches came up afterwards and said how thrilled they were to have her! She had done it, she found her passion. I love this for her!
I do not think there is any greater joy than seeing your children truly happy with what they do and who they are! Sometimes they just need a little help from us to help them find what it is that clicks with them. Sometimes this can take years, but when you help them find it, it is sooooo worth it! I love my Derby Girl!
The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a great movie that shows us that we do not have that much time with our kids while they are actually kids. We need to make wise use of that time and let them enjoy themselves. Help them find things they love, allow them to be children!

This proud parent knows that nobody could have expressed their feelings better than you just did.
You can feel it, just reading your words, how much love you have for your kids and how proud you are of them all.
Kudos to Morgan for taking on such a demanding sport.
