How often do you think about your heart? Lately I think about it often. I’ve been having some strange things happening again with my heart like I did last winter when I had hypomagnesmia. Also, I have had so many friends having heart attacks…I guess my older age is starting to make an appearance through the loss of old friends. February is national heart health month and Market Street is participating.
Did you know that Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States? Scary right? Why do you think that is? Our fast food society? Market Street can help us shop smarter for the health of our hearts. In the front of the store you can pick up a Heart Healthy brochure that has tips on healthy heart foods and it also includes a shopping list. They also have tags on the shelves to help you find heart healthy and low sodium foods. Check out these Heart Healthy meal plans.
You can also sign up for dietitian tours. Tours cover many topics to help you learn more about how to eat for optimum health. If you are a homeschooler, you might want to check out “Hunt for Good Nutrition” and “Danger Rangers”. These may make for some fun educational field trips.
Check out these current dietitian tour topics:
- Healthy Heart Cart
- Healthy Shopping 101
- Easy Diabetes
- Living Gluten/Dairy Free
- Hunt for Good Nutrition
- Danger Rangers
That is not all that Market Street does to help us shop healthier, they also use something called NuVal scores. A NuVal score makes it easier for us to understand nutrition without reading a confusing label. All foods and beverages are rated on a scale of 1 to 100 — the higher the NuVal Score, the better the overall nutrition. These scores can make comparing foods quick and easy. Scores are displayed directly on shelf tags, scale labels, and signage in Market Street stores. Oh and guess what….NuVal scores are not influenced by food and beverage manufactures or special interest groups! Market Street uses an independent panel of nutrition and medical experts. Trading up for better nutrition has never been easier!
So, tell me…what are your current goals with your nutrition? I cut out soda 100% again! I was occasionally grabbing a soda while out and about, but no more! Next thing for me is added sugar! That one is going to be so hard, I sure do love my sweetened coffee!
This post is a sponsored post, however I am a HUGE fan of Market Street, like I go there just to eat lunch, drink coffee and loiter in the store. All opinions are my own and I have not been brainwashed in anyway shape or form.
