It seems that some kids think that healthy foods are icky…ewwwww. Why is that? Is it from TV? Parents? Friends? I’m thinking it is mainly friends. Kids at school complaining about the good for you lunch their mom packed. Sometimes it’s not cool to eat an apple, it’s much cooler to eat a brownie. Do you think that is what they think?
My kids do not attend public school, but I have heard that they have vending machines there. Do they have these at your child’s school? Soda, Snacks and Candy? How are you to know what your child is eating?
How do you ensure your kids are eating healthy at school. What are some of your kids favorite snacks?

I know when I was in middle and high school I got candy and cokes out of the vending machine. I don’t give my kids cash to take to school- I pay online for their school lunches. But yes- vending machines are at the schools…

I only have two that are in school fulltime and they are in elementary, so it is easier to control what they eat. There are not vending machines in their school, so I don’t have to worry about that yet (I say yet, because I know they will probably want to buy junk from them once they have that choice. It will have to come out of their own pocket, though!) Luckily, my kids really like fruit and vegetables and other healthy snacks. Of course they like junk food, too, but even when they grab their own snacks after school they will choose something like a string cheese or apple. I try to make sure with each meal they have at least one fruit or vegetable so I think they have just grown up use to eating that kind of food.
