Happy Mother’s Day and An Update on Me!

05.09.2010 by Girl on Fire // 13 Comments

First of all, when you are done reading this post please go check out my new sponsor!  Texas Chip Medicaid is sponsoring this month of Not So Average Mama!

Go check them out and find out how you can have all of your children insured for $50 a month!  You can check it out by clicking on the banner located in the sidebar!

Today is a gloomy rainy day.  It’s cold.  Yesterday was awesome…why couldn’t today have been just as awesome.

I think the weather got to me because I was a cranky tired mama this morning.  Took awhile to start feeling better.

I was supposed to have updated last week after the Rheumatologist and I just haven’t gotten around to it.  So I’ll give y’all a quick update now.

First off, I have a new “symptom“.  It’s a very strange one that came on suddenly over the last month.  One day I put on a T-shirt and noticed it was hugging my belly.

Right under my ribs my stomach is protruding and hard!

It’s like I went from being normal to looking about 7 months pregnant.

When I was at the Rheumatologist he had me lay down and began feeling it all.

He asks me….”Are you sure you’re not pregnant?”.

Yea, I’m sure.

If I was pregnant enough to be this big I would be feeling the baby move, besides that my periods are normal, besides having two in one month back in March.  I also get extremely ill with hyperemisis when I am pregnant.  He said that he want’s me to go get checked out by an OBGYN before I come back to see him.  It’s not fat, super weird.

So the visit with the Rheumatologist was filled with a lot of info gathering.   Lots of questions.  He covered everything.  He then began checking me out.  I think he checked every joint in my body.  He also did the pressure point test for Fibromyalgia.

He said that I have all the signs and symptoms of Fibromyalgia including the pressure points.  Thing is, even putting that label on it does not cover all the issues that I am having.  Especially the way the veins in my right arm are enlarged and the way that pain is over there.  So we have figured out that I do have Fibromyalgia, which was pretty much given considering both my mom and grandmother have it.

BUT he is dumbfounded on the rest.  He ordered more labs.

I was poked 4 times by 3 different women.  My veins do not cooperate.

The Rheumatologist visit was $449.00, this was with the 25% discount of paying in full.  That’s way more than I expected to pay.  These medical bills are out of control.

This visit was last Thursday.  On Friday I called the OBGYN he had given me the number for.  Before I made the call I went ahead and took a pregnancy test just so I could tell them I had if they asked.  Of course it was negative.  When I called I explained what was going on and that I would need an ultrasound.  I have Endometriosis so we need to see if I have some out of control cysts or a tumor.  I asked her to give me a ball park figure on the cost of that visit so I could be prepared…..she said around $500.00.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, will it ever end?

So, I have that appointment scheduled for May 24th with the OBGYN, it was the soonest they could get me in.  I also have an appointment with the Rheumatologist on June 3rd to go over my blood work and hopefully get this crap figured out.

Anyone want to give me a job?

Ok, on to something more pleasant….

Today is Mother’s Day!  The girls and I had decided we would be planting plants and flowers today.  I took them to Walmart and let them pick everything out.  We came home and we figured out what to plant where and got to work.  I think it turned out so pretty!  My girls did cool!  They picked out an awesome variety!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

He gave me 5 to choose from. All of them being linked to him somehow. They said it would be easier for them all to communicate with labs and such. Less confusion and they could go over labs without me trying to be the middle man so to speak.

Happy Mother’s Day to you as well!

LOL Dr. House would be awesome. Anyone know a real life Dr. House? I can even handle his assholishness…yea that’s a word. Actually, you know what is crazy? Down at the bottom of my site is a banner that says Pray for Darby. Darby’s mother, Jana, actually figured out what was wrong with Darby by watching House! That show basically saved her daughter’s life!

That sucks so bad, hun. It is going to be doctor after doctor until you get a true diagnosis. I wish I could afford to buy you health insurance. I hope it all works out. And I am praying for no tumors.

I’m glad you at least have a rheumatologist who is working to try and figure it out, and not one who decided it was fibro and that’s it. Still frustrating though.

Doctors are crazy expensive. Texas Chip may be seeing more people as employers choose not to cover employees anymore. I just read an article on the healthcare reform that it’s cheaper for companies to pay the penalties to not cover employees, and then put the burden of healthcare on the people than to continue coverage. Crazy.
