As a person gets older, moving from childhood to adulthood, they begin to hear the questions like “where is your life headed,” and “what are your long-term goals” more and more. For some, these questions are a huge source of anxiety. They want to follow God’s plan, but they aren’t sure what it is. Regardless of a person’s age, this is something that almost all Christians will struggle with at some point.

While there is advice and guidance about God’s plan at sites like weareradiant.com, many people still want definitive answers. Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer that applies to everyone. It is up to each person to figure out God’s plan for their life. Some tips that will help them along this journey can be found here.
1. Ask God What His Plan Is
When someone wants to know what God’s plan is for their life, there’s a biblical answer they can use. According to James 1:5, all they must do is ask. If someone believes in His power to give guidance, He will provide it.

There are many people who have a natural tendency to try to figure everything out on their own. However, God is usually trying to let them know that He is there, and He wants to provide guidance along the way. Now is the time to become humble and stop stressing about going through this often-difficult journey alone. Ask Him for help and He will provide the guidance being sought. While God knows a person’s heart, asking Him outright will help the process along.
2. Listen for Cues
It is true that God works in mysterious ways. He will not always make the answer apparent or say it loudly so a person can’t miss it. Instead, it is necessary to actively listen for what He has to say and to watch for signs while looking for cues and clues.

Keep studying and praying, keep an eye open for insight from the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. Keep quiet and meditate. By doing this, it is possible to hear God and learn about the plan he has laid out for a person’s life.
Remember, God is never going to tell someone to do something that is against His character or that contradicts His word. Make sure to listen for and ignore any voices coming from the enemy that may lead someone down a path that moves away from God’s Will. The Word of God is powerful, and it is very clear about what God does and does not want someone to do.
3. Remain, Patient,
When someone is concerned about their future, this may be the hardest step to follow. Remaining patient, especially through difficult times, isn’t an easy task. In some situations, God is going to give someone more than one option for the future. It can be difficult to figure out which one is the right option and which one He is drawing a person to.

It’s important to wait for God before making a decision or acting on instinct. This gives a person the opportunity to listen, pray, and think about God’s wisdom and what option he is pointing toward. There are times when God will delay his absolute answers to help cultivate trust in His word and His decisions, rather than a person’s own will. There are some cases where God is waiting for a person to catch up to the desires He has for their life by letting the person think about what they want for a while.
4. Follow God
If a person really wants to know what God has planned for their life, they must first become a real, true follower of His. It’s important to begin the journey as a Christian. This is done by cultivating and building a relationship with God.
A person must seek out God with a genuine and honest desire to really know Him and what He is capable of. To know God is to understand what He can do in a person’s life, rather than a person following their own selfish desires. There are several ways to cultivate this relationship. For example, make daily devotions and reading the bible part of a person’s day-to-day routine. It’s also important to spend time praying and go to church.

Creating this strong relationship with Him means a person can begin on the path to God, which will reveal His plan for their life. Remember, though, it can take time and a tremendous amount of faith and effort to discover what this plan is.
5. A Person Should Surrender Their Will
While there are many people who claim to follow God, they should consider if they really, truly trust their life with Him and to Him. Sometimes, a person may think they know what they really want in life and where they are supposed to go. Rather than seeking out God’s Will, what someone really wants to do is to tell God their plans and then ask for their approval. This is not an effective way to find God’s real, true desires.

It is important to trust that the plan that God has created for a person is the only one a person needs to follow. Remember, before God can and will reveal His Will, a person must be committed to doing what He asks and desires. Take time to surrender fully to Him to know what his plan is.
6. A Person Should Take Time to Learn About Themselves
Each person, to fully understand God’s plan, must pay attention to how God has wired them. God creates each person for a certain role. They have a place and job in the world that no one else is able to do. For example, in 1 Peter 4:10, it says something to the effect that each person has received a gift, that it should minister to each other, and each person should serve as a steward of the manifold of grace to God.

God has gifted each person with unique and special abilities to perform missions and tasks for which each person, alone, is created. When someone truly seeks God’s Will, they will take a look at the skills and talents He blessed them with. The plan that God has for a person’s life is going to correlate directly with these gifts.
7. Take a Look at the Circumstances of a Person’s Life
Sometimes, God will demonstrate His plan for someone’s life by linking up the circumstances in a specific and rather obvious manner. The same is done in reverse, helping a person understand what His Will isn’t for a person by making it clear that there are some things that are just not meant to be.

For example, if someone only weighs 125 pounds and is rather short, there’s a good chance that God’s Will is not for that person to become a star basketball player. Keep in mind though, while some find this is discouraging, God will never close one door if they don’t open a new one. The doors that God chooses to close are typically a sign that He is creating or setting up something exciting and new. By moving forward and searching for new opportunities, it is possible to get some basic direction for one’s life.
What Is God’s Plan?
The next time a person begins to stress or feel frustrated about what God wants them to do with their life, they should take a deep breath and cast this anxiety to Him. Take some time out to pray until his voice is heard, and it is clear what steps He wants a person to take. Regardless of how old a person is, or what they have done in the past, each person has a path that God wants them to follow. It is necessary to trust Him to guide a person to this path and down it successfully.
Remember, if a person still has questions and isn’t sure that God has created a plan for their life, they can turn to the Bible. Even though there is no cut-and-dry answer or formula that can be used to determine God’s plan, the bible outlines what God wants, His Word, and His character. He makes it clear that in times when someone doubts their purpose or path, they can turn to him for answers. By studying the bible, it is possible to find all the answers a person is seeking. Many people are amazed about how much they can learn from this book and how many of their questions it can answer.

Remember, God gave each person a logical mind, which means everyone has the ability to think through the facts and the options that are available. As a person looks for God’s true purpose and will in their life, take time to learn and study all the different possibilities, even if there are some that are surprising.
By reaching out to God, using the tips here, and turning to the bible when a person has questions, they can begin to figure out God’s will and plan for their life. Be sure to keep this in mind.
