I bet a lot of you headed out to the theater today to catch Frozen! I bet you loved it! My Facebook feed was blowing up with families raving about the movie and about how much their children loved it. I have been trying to work on my review all day, but had a few small emergency situations pop up here at the house…that is another post though. Anyhow, for those of you that have not watched it…Frozen came out in theaters everywhere TODAY! I was lucky enough to attend the Premiere of Frozen last week during my trip to Hollywood.
My Frozen movie review will not contain any spoilers for those of you that have not watched the movie yet. There are some twists in the movie that you may not see coming and I want to leave them there for you. Frozen is a movie that you will enjoy with your children. It is one of the best Disney movies for me to date. The beauty of the animation, the music, the story…all of it has come together brilliantly.
Frozen stemmed from the Hans Christian Anderson story “The Snow Queen”. This was just where an idea came from, the movie Frozen is very different than the story.
Frozen is about two sisters, Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel). Elsa has a magical power to create snow and ice…a power that grows as she grows and as she grows it gets harder for her to control. When they are young something happens and Elsa’s parents feel the need to hide her power from everyone. She wears gloves and pretty much shuts herself off from her family as well as the world, suffering alone. Anna has no idea why Elsa has shut her out.
The relationship grows rocky because there is no understanding, Elsa just won’t let Anna in. Years later the castle is opened for coronation. Elsa is so stressed and nervous and Anna is bouncing off the walls! She can’t wait to be around people and pretty much have a grand ‘ol party. Anna is so crazy happy that she meets a prince named Hans (Santino Fontana) and instantly decides she is in love and wants to get married. Elsa knows that this is not a good thing. She is the big sister and she knows that her sister can not possibly be in love with this man she just met…alas…sisters will bicker and argue. Thing is, Elsa can not control her power and totally loses it. She didn’t mean it, but everyone thinks she is a monster and she heads for the mountains…really.
Once there she builds the most beautiful ice palace and is content on being alone. So much effort went into this movie. We had a behind scenes look at the making of the movie with the filmmakers and animators. The building of the ice palace is my favorite scene in the movie. So magical and paired with a powerhouse of a song…so very moving.
So Anna must find her sister and fix the whole mess, because she knows deep down that her sister is not an evil monster. She heads off alone to find her sister. Not too far into her journey she meets Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), who is an ice salesman and his trusty reindeer Sven! They join her in her journey to bring her sister back. They end up meeting my favorite character along the way, Olaf (Josh Gad)! Olaf will win you over in a matter of seconds! His character is hilarious and you and your children will quickly become fans.
I do not want to tell you anymore about the movie because I don’t want to ruin it for you. Just know that these are strong female characters. Stronger female characters like Anna, Elsa and Princess Merida (Brave) are great role models for my own little princesses. All I can say is go see Frozen! You won’t be sorry!
No compensation was received for this post and all opinions are my own. My travel accommodations for this trip were covered by Disney.

We took the kids this afternoon and they loved it! Such an amazing movie. I’m already ready to see it again!
I’m so glad they decided to go in a different direction than the original story. They did such a good job in developing the sisters’ relationship and Olaf is just the most awesome character ever!
