When Allergies Strike! Top Tips for Fighting Allergies

07.31.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but allergies always seem to hit me at the worst times.  In fact, every single time I would travel my allergies would hit me and I would get so sick.  By the time I would make it back home I was down for the count trying to recover.  So, I started preparing my body in advance by boosting my immune system to fight allergies with most advice coming from a medical professional such as an allergist and homeopathic sources.

top tips for when allergies strike

I am not a doctor!!!  These are just some things that work for me!

One thing I try to do is pump up my Vitamin C!  Some good sources of vitamin C are fresh fruits (especially citrus fruits) and vegetables.  If you can not meet your Vitamin C needs with fresh fruits and vegetables you can always take a supplement.  Vitamin C is good for you in general, so just make sure you are getting your daily dose!

Another one I load up on is grape seed extract.  Grape seed has antihistamine, antiallergenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties!  I also start taking this anytime I even start to feel a little bit sick.  This is another one that has many other benefits and is definitely worth looking into for your health.

I capsulize Turmeric and take it for my neuro disease, but it is also helpful for fighting allergies and illness.  It’s also a great anti-inflammatory.

Local raw honey!  This doesn’t help with my travels, but it does help for home!  We always use local raw honey to boost our immunity to local allergens.  Plus, it’s just tasty!

A lot of medical professionals may not agree with all of my tips, but my experience has been positive.

Medication isn’t my first go to, but if nothing else is helping, it’s worth trying some over the counter allergy medications.  Nose sprays and antihistamines are the ones that I try first; if you’re interested in trying something like this for yourself, you may find this list https://serp.co/best/sinus-rinses-washes/ of products useful to help you choose one to see if that helps you out. I’ve learned that you shouldn’t use an over the counter decongestant nasal spray more than three days in a row.

If none of these things are helping, then it is time to turn to the professionals and talk to an allergist about getting prescription medication.  Allergists can prescribe nasal sprays containing steroids, which are the big guns.  There is also the option of allergy shots, but this is something that I have never tried myself.  Also, they can help you pinpoint just what it is you are reacting to with your allergy which can be really helpful when choosing treatments.

Definitely, talk with a professional to see what other tips you can do to reduce your reactions!
