Everyone knows that Texas is HOT. Not average hot, but over the top, boil your blood hot. Not the time to travel. Since the days and nights are getting cooler, we have been talking about taking a family camping trip. I would like it if the J-man’s family would come with us to make it a huge fun event for the whole family.
Since there are children of all ages in the family, I need to be sure this is a kid friendly travel event. I have not been camping since Emma was a newborn. Yea, sometimes I am not all that bright. I chose to go camping with a newborn while recovering from a c-section where I lost a lot of blood. I think the blood loss effected my brain some in that decision making. Anyhow, the time is right.
I would love any suggestions for some great nearby locations. Since there will be a lot of kids I would prefer to keep it within 2-3 hour driving distance of Dallas. If your local, tell me the good and the bad about the local camping areas around here. Maybe I should just keep this simple and set up camp in the backyard?

Maybe some lakes around the Waco area?!?! I don’t think it’s that far at all. Maybe 2 hours tops? I know Lake Waco (I’m pretty sure) has a part of the lake sectioned off (I guess is how you would put it) for kids. With a playground etc. I know that most lakes in the Waco, Temple, Killeen, Belton, area are pretty nice!
I would say go to the Hill Country area (Bandera for sure) but it’s about a 5 hour drive – BUT – it has a river, great, great, great places to camp, cute little places to shop etc.
Same with the towns around the Austin area. Pretty towns, decent campgrounds and great little places to shop!
I don’t know much about Far West Texas – other than hot and DRY! And East Texas has some pretty lakes and nice campgrounds and lots are kinda secluded!
Hope that helps! =) Now I miss Texas even more!!!!!!!
