Enjoy The Summer Months

Summer is here, and hopefully, you have had the time to prepare for this hottest of seasons. If not, don’t worry, we are here to help. Whether you are spending summer alone or with family and friends, here are some great ideas to help you make the most of the warmer months.

Planning your summer wardrobe

It’s time to move aside those winter clothes and make room for something new. There are some great dresses at Theiconic.com.au which will help you look and feel good, whether you spend time indoors or outdoors. Then, of course, you will need plenty of t-shirts, shorts, and footwear that will allow your feet to catch a piece of the sun.

You may want to spend time by the pool or at sea. Buro227.com.au have a great feature on a new swimwear collection you might want to invest in, but whatever you choose, ensure it is flattering to your body while making you look and feel good.

Preparing your home

The sun may be blazing outside, so you need to ensure the air conditioning is working on the inside as you will need somewhere to cool down. You might also consider putting up mesh netting around the windows to protect your home from those pesky bugs that always seem to appear at this time of year. You may want to invite visitors over, but that doesn’t include those of the insect variety.

Your garden might also need a little work, so don’t delay in getting the lawnmower and shears out, as you will need your lawn space to lounge under the sun. Again, insects can be a nightmare, not only for you and your family but your garden as well. There are some great ideas at Summerwindnursery.com which will give you ideas on keeping your plants and flowers safe over the summer.

Buying the essentials

Okay, so your summer wardrobe may be sorted, but there are other essential items you need to keep you going. For starters, sunscreen is a must, as you don’t want to walk around town looking like a boiled lobster. Then consider an attractive pair of shades, such as those featured on Bellenews.com to make you look stylish while protecting your eyes from the dazzling sun.

It’s also time to stock up your refrigerator with all the goodies you want to eat and drink. While we do advocate healthy eating, there is still reason to go a little crazy with ice creams and popsicles for you and the kids. You could, of course, cut down on fizzy pops, and instead make your own fruit smoothies to go into the fridge, or buy natural juices from the store.

Planning for the kids

Assuming you have kids, they will need plenty to do over the summer months. We have some great ideas at Notsoaveragemama.com so have a look at some of the great activities we had in mind.

When it comes to your garden, there is nothing kids enjoy more than water. Therefore, buy plenty of water guns and super soakers to keep them happy, as well as a slip ‘n’ slide mat which can offer plenty of fun. There are also giant garden games you could buy, such as Jenga, as well as traditional items such as swingball sets and footballs.

Of course, safety needs to come first. When your children play outdoors, you can guarantee they will be coming to you with bruised knees and cuts and scratches. You should ensure your garden is safe, with rubber mats under play equipment, and loose debris removed from the lawn and walkways. It’s always best to be prepared, no matter how safe your outside area is, so ensure you have a first-aid kit stocked and ready for use.

Caring for your body

We have already mentioned the need for sunscreen, but you need to remember to keep applying fresh layers throughout the day. The sun’s rays are deadly to the skin, so when possible stay in the shade, or wear a sunhat and loose sleeved clothes for added protection.

It’s always important to stay hydrated, but particularly over the summer, you are going to lose a lot of water through your pores as you sweat under the heat. Ensure you always have plenty of bottled water to rehydrate you and keep your energy levels high. Otherwise, you are going to spend a lot of your summer days feeling tired and sluggish, meaning you won’t enjoy the season as much as you want to.
