I don’t know about you, but I bet we have no less than 10 old cell phones laying around the house. My little ones run off with them anytime we upgrade to a new phone. Heck, I bet I even have an old pager laying around here (not really because there was that house fire once). If only there were an ecoATM near me! I sure would love to cash in on some of my kids more pricier toys…I would let them keep the cardboard boxes a little longer and snatch the cell phones back to take to an ecoATM.
Nearly nine in 10 American device owners have outdated and unused items at home, but 10 percent or less have tried to earn money from old devices
ecoATM is the nationwide network of automated electronics recycling kiosks. Yes, kiosks! No packaging and mailing needed. You simply locate one of ecoATM’s nearly 900 kiosks. You can recycle mobile phones, tablets and MP3 players.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, mobile phones are usually replaced every 18 months, yet nearly two in three (66 percent) men believe that their current wallet will outlast their smartphone and more than half of women (53 percent) believe their current purse will last longer than their smartphones.
It doesn’t matter the age or condition of the device. They use a worldwide auction system to offer competitive prices depending upon condition and type of phone. A newer smartphone could cash in at a few hundred dollars! Some old phones may not be worth anything, but with by using ecoATM you know that it will be recycled.
Apparently ecoATM is not a new thing! The first one was installed in 2009. Where have I been? There doesn’t happen to be one near me as of yet, but I do hope that one will be placed in our area soon. I think it is a brilliant idea and I sure could use a little extra money. I read that cash given for mobile devices can range between $1 and $300! You can also choose to have your proceeds donated to charity…all right there at the kiosk!
ecoATM recycled its two millionth mobile device in January 2014, which enabled the recovery or reuse of:
- 1,544 lbs of silver
- 70,000 lbs of copper
- 500,000 lbs of devices
So tell me, how many old cell phones do you have laying around? Are you ready to cash in with ecoATM?
