The entrance to your home can be inviting to guests and family members; a place to organize personal belongings, show hospitality, and share family welcomes and goodbyes. Transforming a cluttered entranceway into something more organized and inviting can certainly be done with a little time and care.
Step One: Separate Necessity from Clutter
Are there things crowding out the entrance that have no place or are unnecessary? For example, storage, trash, toys, or even one too many rugs? Removing these items will immediately open the space up a little bit and help the area to appear manicured and comfortable.
Step Two: Add Organizational Resources
A shoe storage rack is an excellent way to clean up clutter and encourage your guests to do the same. A nice rack placed conveniently near the door will send the message that you would prefer if guests remove their shoes. You may even choose to create a simple sign indicating your request. Additionally, a shoe rack shows guests where to deposit their footwear to keep the entranceway free of clutter.
Other ideas you may consider are adding include a coat rack or a small shelf to store keys, wallets, or other smaller items. Small boxes either built into the wall, or stored in a taller wicker basket can be a great place for mittens, hats, and scarfs during the cold winter months.
Step Three: Show Family Style
Does your family have a mission statement or quote that represents your feelings for each other? Is there some humorous joke that makes everyone laugh in your home? Including your own family style in the entranceway can provide guests with an idea of the environment they are entering.
There are many ways to add family style including vinyl lettering showing a family belief, a large family portrait, a humorous saying plastered over the doorway, or even a simple “Welcome” sign.
By decluttering your entranceway, organizing, and adding family style, you can create a place that is both welcoming and cheerful to your guests and family members.
