5 Elements to Consider When Creating Your Outdoor Oasis

01.14.2020 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

When you put thought, time and resources into it, you can turn your outdoor patio or yard space into an epic sanctuary that doubles as a vacation getaway. Of course, there are several decisions you’ll need to make along the way to make your outdoor space an oasis getaway.

When the crucial elements that make a backyard paradise are perfected to your liking, the getaway of your dreams will await you — at home. Here are five elements most important to any outdoor space to create an ultimate refuge:

1. A Natural Ambiance

Surrounding your outdoor oasis with plants and incorporating natural elements like stones and moving waterfalls generates negative air ions, which are known to improve your mood and benefit your health when they’re exposed to you. In that vein, when you put some effort into incorporating new water features and plants into your outdoor space, spending more time outdoors can offer you these and other health benefits.

Look for evergreen plants that require minimal maintenance, but also pick whichever flowers and local plants appeal to your senses and feelings. If you live in a tropical environment where it’s easy to maintain a lawn, do so. Otherwise, you can get creative with your backyard and put down outdoor stone pebble flooring or install a flagstone patio.

2. Suitable Outdoor Lighting that Sets a Mood

The lighting you choose to incorporate into your outdoor oasis depends on the atmosphere you want to create. You can go with color lighting, black lights, outdoor fire lamps, fire pits or patio ceiling lights with your everyday house light bulbs. For a romantic effect, use yellow or amber string lights around the ceilings and/or walls of your patio.

3. Comfortable and Durable Outdoor Furniture

When the weather permits hours of outdoor time spent lounging with family or friends, or even getting work done on your laptop, you need the right outdoor furniture to take full advantage of the elements. You want your patio furniture to serve as statement pieces that bring your outdoor oasis to life. At the same time, you want durability, practicality and comfort.

4. An Outdoor Sound System

To complete the ambiance, you need a quality outdoor sound system with a good warranty. Opt for something with Bluetooth capabilities, so you and friends can pair up any devices with the sound system and play music. The best outdoor sound systems offer surround sound capabilities, where you set up speakers around your patio and experience the music coming from all directions.

5. An Outdoor Video Camera Security System

When you put all the makings of a luxurious getaway space in an outdoor area, even though it’s at your home, you need good security. Whether you choose to self-monitor with a DIY system or pay a monthly rate for professional monitoring, owning an outdoor security system can help prevent crime.

Designing Your Outdoor Haven

Your outdoor oasis needs your creative spin to make it truly your own. However, you need to do more than pick a theme. Considering the five elements mentioned in this post can help you round out a beautiful, practical, cozy haven.
