You Only Live Once: Simple Steps to Stop the Comparing and Complaining Forever

dragonfly

There are some of us who always looking at what others have and spend their time comparing and complaining about their lot in life, rather than focusing their attention on the positive aspects of their own life.

There are so many simple adjustments you can make to improve things, even little touches such as improving the appearance of your car interior by upgrading your covers through someone like ShearComfort.com can help you to have a more positive outlook.

A greater appreciation

It is all too easy to take everyday actions and regular relationships for granted, especially when you have such a hectic schedule.

So many of us have extremely busy lives and seemingly so little time to appreciate what we really have and how thankful we should be. This often creates a feeling that your life may not be as good as you want it to be and might cause you to think that others around you get more out of life.

The fact of the matter is that a fair number of these other people probably have a greater appreciation of what they have going on in their life, so the aim should be to take a step back and be happy with a life that is often likely to be less than perfect, which is just how life is for most of us.

Take a timeout from technology

One of the biggest draws on our time these days is technology.

It is incredibly easy to become almost addicted to checking your emails, Twitter and Facebook accounts throughout the day. This may be the way that many of us stay connected in the modern world, but if you want to appreciate life and reflect on what you have, it would pay to pause the technology at certain times in the day, so you take a break from looking at a screen.

Try limiting the use of your phone, by putting it on silent during family mealtimes and during the kids bedtime routine. You can always go back to see what has been going on, with a renewed feeling of energy, once you have enjoyed some quality family time.

More gratitude

You will be surprised at just how much better you can feel about your life, simply by living with more gratitude.

It often seems to be the case that people who are grateful, tend to be happier with their relationships that they enjoy with friends and family. If you want to be less stressed and happier, it is perfectly possible to improve your mood and outlook, simply by being more grateful.

When was the last time you wrote a thank-you letter to someone who has been a real help at various points in your life?

People who take the time to write down the things that should be grateful for and to thank others in their life that they are thankful to know, often tend to be happier and less likely to be depressed.

Get to know someone new

Another great way of improving your outlook on life is to get to know someone who is different to you and doesn’t have the same things as you.

Connecting with people who lead different lives to us, helps you feel a greater sense of community and allows you to appreciate that what you have in your life, is worth celebrating, rather than worrying about what others have instead.

Remember, you only live once, so it is up to you to make the most of what you have.
