Commit to Donate Life!

02.16.2010 by Girl on Fire // 10 Comments

This post is written by my friend Janna.  Janna’s daughter Darby has a condition called Biliary Atresia.  I’ve written about Darby before, this condition is affecting her little liver.  She has been through so much already and remains one of the happiest babies I have ever seen!

The post below is Authored by Janna B.

Before September 2009, I never put too much thought into the importance of organ donation.  It was then that my 2 month old baby girl was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia.  When the time comes, my little angel’s life will depend on another family’s generosity.

It is the most wonderful gift to be able to give life, to save lives, and improve lives out of tragedy.  One organ and tissue donor can benefit as many as 50 people. But checking the box on your driver’s license may not be enough to satisfy you state’s donor requirements.

I plead with you to please register today to be a donor. By filling out a quick online form, you will be placed in the national organ donor registry, and receive a card to carry with you.  Just go to www.donatelifeamerica.net to get started, and find answers to questions or concerns you may have.

Here are some quick facts from the Donate Life America site.

  • More than 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.
  • Every 11 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
  • An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.

Please commit to donate life, I did!

Thinking about being a doner is a great start. Becoming one is much better. I am already a card carrying donor – all because of Darby, my darling little granddaughter. Thank you to everyone who reads this!
