Home Dangers

We often think of our homes as safe places for ourselves and our children. But this isn’t always true. There are many home dangers that could be lurking in your home that you might be completely unaware of. An example of this would be in the water supply. You might think that the water running from your taps is safe to drink but don’t be so sure.

Research has shown that tap water can have high levels of fluoride. If you don’t know fluoride is a chemical commonly found in toothpaste and there’s a reason why you spit it out. While not toxic fluoride has been linked to everything from low IQ to brain tumors. So, it’s worth being careful and making sure that you have a filter in your home. You might think that the easiest thing to do would be to buy bottles of water. However, the chemicals in the plastic can actually change the water making that dangerous to drink as well. A water filter really is the only option to ensure water is safe.

Let’s look at a few of the other dangers that might be lurking in your home.

Mold On The Walls

You might think that mold in your home isn’t a major problem. In fact, thanks to new improved forms of insulation, mold is common in virtually every home. That’s because cold air can’t escape and it meets warm air, giving us damp and then mold.

In most cases mold is harmless, but that’s not true if you find black mold in your home. This is toxic, particularly to kids, and this is why I am ordering a black mold test kit immediately!

According to restorationeze.com black mold can actually be deadly to young children and elderly adults. As such, if you do find this issue lurking in your home, you want to get it removed as soon as possible. It could even be considered a home emergency.

Danger Of Break-Ins

Is there a possibility that your home could be exposed to the risk of a break-in? It’s quite possible if you don’t have the right level of security for your home. You might want to think about getting reinforced windows for your home. According to research, a large percentage of break-ins do begin with a window being broken. So, if you can eradicate this possibility, you could make it far less likely that an intruder could enter your home. Of course, you can also think about using other forms of security around your home like CCTV. It is possible to setup CCTV around a private residential property as long as it doesn’t record any area of someone else’s land.

Asbestos In The Walls

Finally, you have to be aware of the danger of asbestos. This is particularly prevalent in older homes that may not have been held to the same building standards as properties that are built today. Asbestos was used as an insulator until 1984 and it was only recently that it was linked to a cause of cancer. You can find out more about the dangers on asbestos.com. If you have asbestos in your home you should definitely consider getting it removed. While expensive, it is necessary to guarantee the health of your family.
