Business Phone Numbers

12.11.2012 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

So, Jeremy has truly kicked up his Cabinet business.  He has been giving bids left and right and the work is slowly picking up. Slow and steady wins the race right?  So now we are discussing some other business needs.  He wants to get a 1-800 number.  I was searching around and I see 0800 numbers as well, I am assuming these are 800 numbers for the UK.

So my questions to you on this are…

  • Do you own your own business?
  • Do you use an 800 number?
  • Do you feel an 800 number is necessary?

I personally do not think that we need an 800 number for the Cabinet business alone, but he also has his custom case business and takes orders from all over the United States.  These cases can be shipped and the reputation for Road Kill Cases is growing as more people are learning about his quality cases.  So for the case business I do think an 800 number would be a good decision.

Do you find that a lot of businesses still use 800 numbers?  I really need some advice on this.  Also, when you have an 800  number, do you have it forward to your cell phone?  Pros and cons of this would be appreciated.

As we grow our businesses I want to be sure that I make wise decisions on business purchases and this includes phone numbers as well.  I don’t want to make a wrong choice and have us locked in with something that is not growing the business.

For my own business I use my cell phone number.  Part of me wants to separate the numbers and just have them both ring in to my phone.  That way I can only answer the business number during business hours.  Do y0u think this is wise?  Or more confusing?

Please leave your opinions as both business owners and customers.
