Bottle or Breast? Words from the “Breastfeeding Nazi”!

11.17.2009 by Girl on Fire // 9 Comments

It’s no secret that I breastfed all of my children.  I never pumped either.  All boob all the time.  Yes, I am very pro breastfeeding when it comes to choosing a feeding method.  Yes, I will talk about it and give facts.  Yes, I will also tell you how awesome it was to nurse through a pregnancy and tandem nurse the girls together.  Yes I will talk about extended nursing!

tandem-nursingNot too long ago it came to my attention that  a former friend (that one I told to kick rocks) was calling me a breastfeeding nazi behind my back.  Say what?  I think this is the most ridiculous thing ever.  Just because I speak about my wonderful experience does not mean that I think that anyone that did not breastfeed is a piece of crap.  Give me a break.  I live my life and I can only speak from my experience.  I was not breastfed, do I think my mom failed me?  Uh, noooooo…my mom was given bad information! Doctors informed my mother that she could not possibly breastfeed us because she was allergic to milk and if she couldn’t drink milk she could not nurse us.

I am thankful that there is a lot more info out there for mothers and that doctors are more knowledgeable about nursing a child.  I seen young mothers nursing their babies and I am in aww of how far we have come!  Funny to think we have come far, when we are really just getting back to basics!

So, do I think you are a piece of crap mom because you chose to use formula? Nope!  Do I hope that you atleast gave it a try?  Of course I do!

I enjoyed breastfeeding.  I will admit there were times that I just wanted to throw in the towel, but it was worth sticking it out for my girls!

Please check out the JuiceboxJungle video located in my sidebar and watch for the breastfeeding poll as well as the video about ashamed to bottle feed.

I didn’t breast feed any of my kiddos. I’m glad you don’t think I’m a piece of crap. I wish I had tried, but was scared and never did. So, I’m a dork. lol

She did not say that at all…

She was not saying anything negative about any mothers who chose not to breast feed.

Maybe you should read that again.

      Anyways, GREAT POST!
It is very refreshing to finally meet someone who enjoyed breastfeeding that does not push their beliefs on everybody else.

      Great post,
I will be following you from now on!

Since my youngest was born early and was in the NICU I had a very hard go at nursing him in the beginning. Not because I didn’t try but because the nurses in the NICU would sabotage me. I would show up to the NICU about every 2.5 hrs and would find that someone had gave him formula!!! Talk about freak the hell out!! So I would have to pump extra and would always make sure there was some breastmilk in the fridge. You’ll never believe it but I caught them giving him formula again!!!
Their reason… “you can’t be here all the time we have to give him something” & “oh you don’t want to have to come down here every 2.5 hours”. YES I do and YES I will!

So even though they know its best they’ll still be the 1st to try and sabotage you if given the chance.

Once he was out we did go on to successful breastfeeding but only because I was determined to do so!

Totally agree! I had to force them to take me to the NICU to see Emma. When I got there I wanted to nurse her and they told me no…I said say what?? She said that I could not nurse her. I asked her if she was getting a bottle and she said yes, I said then I can friggin’ nurse her! So I picked her up and did.

I breastfeed all my kids but my son was in NICU for a week. I didn’t even get to hold him till he was a week old and my Mom held him first! I remember telling her I hadn’t even held him! I remember seeing him being fed by a nurse or someone and they never even let me hold him or feed him! I was so tramatized by his situation that I could never even fill out his baby book because it was so upsetting what happened to him.

I can’t believe she called you a breastfeeding Nazi just because you preferred to breastfeed over using formula! I tried breastfeeding my son but had such a hard time getting him to latch on properly and he’d go ballistic when he couldn’t get any milk, then I’d get frustrated, etc. After two months, I gave up. I think I’ll try again if I have another baby though!

You’re only a breastfeeding Nazi if you gas people who don’t breast feed. Since you have plenty of friends who don’t breast feed I’m going to assume you’re not, in reality, a Nazi. Of course, I don’t know any of your friends soooooooo…..? 😀
Never mind her. She’s just jealous of your experience.
I actually did both for #1 and exclusively breast for #2. So far #1 is winning the smarts wars….#2 thinks eating sand is akin to creme brulee. Well, I guess they are both crunchy…… *sigh*
    🙂
