Family-Friendly Festival to Feature Bank Robbery Reenactment, Soap Box Derby Challenge, Live Music, Texas Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton, Exhibits and Food
Pilot Point, Texas – August 21, 2013 – Pilot Point’s Main Street Program today announced that its Fourth Annual Bonnie and Clyde Days festival will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Pilot Point historic town square starting at 10:00 a.m., and admission is free. The festival is held annually to commemorate and reenact the filming of the famous “bank robbery scene” in the 1967 Warner Brothers movie “Bonnie and Clyde,” starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The notorious scene was shot at the town’s historic bank building on the town square. Additionally, the Pilot Point area was known as a hang-out of the REAL Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow Gang. Local legend has it that a family member lived in the area and offered the gang safe haven.
The 4th Annual Bonnie and Clyde Days will include a bank robbery reenactment with professional gangster reenactors, a soap box derby challenge, live music on three stages, a keynote welcome and live reading by Texas Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton, exhibits, food and other family-friendly fun.
WHEN: Saturday, October 12; 2013 festival starts at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Historic town square in Pilot Point, located 11 miles north of Denton on 377.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ACTIVITIES: The all-day festival features the following:>
- 9:30 a.m. – the Bonnie and Clyde “Get Fit” 5K Family Fun Run / Walk.
- 10:00 a.m. – the event keynote and welcome will be given by Texas Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton, featuring a live reading of her new poem “When Bonnie Found Clyde,” written for the event (Morton will speak and read again at Noon).
- Noon – Bonnie & Clyde Days Bank Robbery Reenactment, celebrating the day “Hollywood came to town” to film scenes for the 1967 Warner Brothers film “Bonnie & Clyde” (starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty) at Pilot Point’s historic bank building. Watch the famous “Bank Robbery Scene,” complete with gangsters, a police squad, and the booming guns of The PublicEnemies of 1934 (professional gangster actors). Also features local actors.
- 1:00 p.m. – Cabinet Makers’ Soap Box Challenge. For more information on the Soap Box Challenge (car entry, registration, age limits and derby specs), contact the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce at 940.686.5385.
- Live music on three stages – all day. Bands include 2FarNorth, Ryan Ready, Raymond James & Robin Hackett, Deanie and James with The James Dean Texas Project, Theresa Arnold, Shannon Choate. HEADLINER CONCERT at 5:30 p.m. with The Beerman, Brian Houser in the SpeakEasy Beer Tent.
- Other activities include a Pie Eating Contest, a Pumpkin Patch, Kids Zone with bounce houses, face painting and Sharkarosa Ranch Exotic Animals. Tractor and car shows will feature Model A Cars from the Dallas Model A Ford Club and Time Machine Car Shows. Antique tractor displays and “Peanut Thrashing Demos” will be provided by the Texas Plowboys (Denton County Antique Tractor, Farm Equipment and Primitive Club). Food and merchandise vendors will also be on site.
