Your Guide to Finding the Best Internet Service Provider

02.08.2018 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

These days, you just can’t go without having Internet. We use it for everything from checking email to stay in touch to finding out what’s happening in our area to watching our favorite shows. The Internet has become a hub for all our information and entertainment. Many of us also use it to do work from home — or to take home work from the office.

Internet Service Provider

With everything that the Internet does, you can’t risk wasting money on an unreliable provider. You need to take your time in selecting a provider that is going to give you the type of access you need for the right price and with the best service and for me, that means the best satellite internet. Here’s what you need to look for when evaluating your options for Internet service providers:

Speed

Obviously, one of the things you’ll be most interested in when choosing an Internet service is knowing what speed it provides. You don’t want to wait forever while pages load. You want to get on, get the information you need, and be on your way. But it’s important that you don’t overpay for speeds that you don’t really need also. You need to think carefully about what kinds of speeds you actually need.

What do you use the Internet for? Are you mostly just checking email and browsing the web after work? If so, you will probably be fine with a basic package. Do you like to stream movies or play multi-player games online? If so, you will need a package with higher speeds.

When you are evaluating services, don’t just look at the pricing. Make sure you are comparing prices and speeds. For example, Optimum offers 100 mbps for only $39.99 per month. Many other service providers offer speeds much lower than that for the same price. You need to look beyond the basic dollar amount to make sure you are getting the right value — the best speeds for the best price.

WiFi Access

Few people use a desktop computer anymore, and even fewer have only one device in their house that needs to be hooked up to the Internet. That means that you’re going to need WiFi access. Once upon a time, that was included with the service. Now you have to pay an extra fee for your WiFi, in most cases.

Don’t make any assumptions about what’s included with your Internet service. Check over the service offer carefully, and look for any hidden fees for WiFi access or other things like modem rental. If you don’t see WiFi listed, make sure you ask for it. And then ask if there is an additional fee for setting it up.

Bundled Offers

Many Internet service providers also offer phone or cable service. Some even offer home security. Often, you can get a better price on your Internet service by signing up for a bundle with one or more of these other services. In fact, you can sometimes get a bundle of services for less money than you can get just the Internet service. These providers want to get you used to using the other services, so they are willing to sell it to you for less money at the start.

Even if you don’t plan on keeping the landline or the cable package, you may find that signing up for such a bundle for a year (or whatever promotional period is offered) will actually save you money. Consider exploring the bundled offers before dismissing them.

Service

Finally, don’t overlook the customer service you would get. Maybe you find an offer that gives you phenomenal speeds for pennies, but if the provider has a history of outages and poor response rates, what good will it do you? Check out the provider online before you sign up for anything. Look for reviews, Better Business Bureau ratings, and more to find out what kind of experience customers have had with the company. You want to find a company that has a history of providing great customer service and of offering consistent results.

Your Internet service is too important to sign up with any provider. Make sure you do a little research so that you get the best service from the best company at the best price. You’ll be glad you did when you are watching movies problem-free and getting all your work done from home in record time!
