How To Choose The Best Bed For Your Child

A good quality bed is so important for a growing child. People can assume that because children don’t weigh much, they don’t need the support of an expensive mattress. But with their bones and bodies growing all the time, the correct support is essential for comfort and health. Here’s how you can go about choosing the best bed for your child.

Decide On The Mattress Style

While memory foam isn’t recommended for babies and toddlers, older children and teenagers can enjoy the comfort it offers. Memory foam supports the weight and molds to the body, avoiding any painful pressure points and helps promote spine health. Tempurpedic report and analysis results highlight the pros and cons, so you can make an informed decision. If you prefer a more traditional mattress for your child, then box springs could be the way to go. You’ll need to find one that’s the correct firmness level so that it offers the most comfort to your child. Since children don’t weigh much, a firm or very firm mattress is likely to be uncomfortable for them. Go to a bed shop and test out some different models to find something that’s exactly right. Sprung mattresses do tend to wear out and sag more quickly, although if you regularly flip and rotate it will keep at it’s best for longer. Plus you could always add a memory foam topper for added comfort.

Choose The Bed

The bed itself isn’t as important as the mattress. But something study (and that won’t squeak and wake up your child every time they move in the night!) is essential. If you are opting for a cabin bed or bunk beds, take a close look at the ladder or steps. It’s important to make sure they aren’t going to hurt your child’s feet, as they’ll need to be able to comfortably get in and out of bed. Metal rungs, for example, can cause discomfort, although DIY’s like this could help. Finally, you will need to think about the size of the bed. Most parents will opt for single beds, but there’s no reason you can’t go for a small double or even a standard double. They will be extra comfortable, and your child is likely to fall out of the bed as they can sleep in the middle. It could be an option depending on the size of your child’s room. While you won’t be able to get a lot of children’s bedding designs for double duvets, you could always go for plain sheets and accessorize it.

Think About Pillows and Extras

Standard pillows are intended to support the head and neck of adults. Small children don’t have the same proportions, and so adult pillows can create strain and even posture problems. Pillows and duvets should also be hypoallergenic to prevent breathing issues and allergy problems. Another thing to think about when setting up your child’s bed is mattress protection. These days waterproof mattress protector sheets are no longer noisy and plasticky, and can be very discreet. They are a good way to protect your child’s mattress from any bed wetting issues, and keep it clean and in good condition for longer.
