Wow! Redecorating a bedroom is certainly something that can cost a lot of money if you let it. It might seem like all you need to do is replace them bed and give the walls a lick of paint, but it invariably becomes much more complicated than that. Especially if you want everything to match and look aesthetically pleasing. With that in mind, below you will find some inspiration on how to blitz your bedroom, without wiping out your savings. Keep reading for more info.
The walls
So, probably the first thing you are thinking about when you want to blitz your bedroom is the wall color. You may even have some new shades picked out. However, before you don your overalls and grab your painting brush, consider this. Is spending money and time on paint the best use of your resources, or will you get bored of it again soon and have to go through all of this, all over again? If the answer is yes, then it might worth considering leaving the wall as they are, or at most giving them a freshen up with a nice clean white paint. As this reflects the light and is neutral so you can put any other colors and decorations with it that you like.
Next, if you want a little interest and decoration on the walls but don’t want to spend a fortune on an original one-off piece of artwork or wallpaper, you can use picture shelves instead. These are shelves that have a dip cut out of them, so you can just rest the bottom of a picture frame inside supporting it allowing it to sit at the right angle.
Then put these up, over the bed looks nice and buy some frames. The best sizes are A4 and postcard size. This is because you can then go on sites like amazon.com and buy prints this size and put them straight into the frame and display them. No cutting or expensive mounting involved.
The best thing is that when you get bored of the pictures you have you can just change them to get a whole new look for hardly any money. Making it a much better idea than buying expensive framed pieces and wall mounting them.
Bed and mattress
Obviously, a big focus in the bedroom is the actual bed itself. It’s is often tempting to buy a whole new bed when you are renovating, but before you do think about it carefully. Do you honestly need a whole new bed, or could you use the divan or frame and just replace the mattress at half the cost?
The best thing is that you can get such a range of great mattresses on a budget now. Meaning you, get the most comfortable night’s sleep possible, without blowing your entire bedroom blitz budget on one item.
OK, sometimes the bed frame that you have might not go with the new decor that you have in mind, and in that case, it may be necessary to buy a new one. Although before you do, take a look to see whether you can paint what you have to make it fit in with your scheme better, and saving you some cash. For metal beds, you can use aerosol spray paint, and for wooden ones, even ones with varnish, chalk paint can work wonders and give you that shabby chic feel that is so popular.
Bedding – duvet covers
Now, once the bed has been sorted, it’s time to get to the fun stuff like the duvet covers. These are pretty important as they take up a lot of the visual space in a room. That means you will definitely want to get them right. Of course, with thousands of pattern and fabric options, it isn’t always easy to pick the perfect set.
For the fashionistas out there, a tropical fern theme with a heavy 70’s vibe is something that can work well. Especially, against those white wall that we talked about earlier. Although getting something with the specific pattern you have in mind can be a little pricey. So, if you are craft save some money by buying fabric and following tutorials like this to make your own.
If comfort and warmth are on your mind, especially as we head into the colder weather, then you may prefer some brushed flannel sheets. Perhaps in a green or red tartan to provide a more modern and slightly masculine vibe? You can pick up these pretty cheaply in supermarkets like Target or Walmart too, so they are a good budget option.
Lastly, if you are all about the convenience, and reply, when asked whether you iron your duvet covers or not: “Who got time for dat?” Why not consider seersucker fabric or percale non-iron bedding? As these will look great straight from the wash, no ironing needed.
The only problem being that these sorts of sheets are pretty expensive, so your best bet is to scour the auction sites for folks that have bought sets and no longer want them. Remember, many of these are actually brand new, and folks have just changed their mind. So if you are dead set on an easy life, this is the best way to get it without it costing a fortune.
It’s also worth noting that pattern can have a particular effect on a room. A larger room with support larger patterns. While a small room may look better with plain colors, or very small spaced out patterns to give it the illusion of more room.
Bedding – throw pillows and blankets
Getting the look of the bed right in your bedroom blitz isn’t all about the duvet covers and sheets though. Its also about how you dress the bed including throw pillow and blankets. These are items that finish off the look of the bed and give a sense of luxury and comfort to your sleep space.
However just because they look luxurious and high end doesn’t mean they have to cost a lot. Throw pillows can be really cheap now. Look for ones that don’t have removable covers for the best value. Just remember to take them off the bed every night before you sleep, as you won’t be able to wash them if they get dirty.
It’s also pretty easy to pick up a woolen throw blankets relatively cheaply as well. Although you can save even more money by making your own with crochet, or knit. See here for some instructions.
The benefit of this, being that you can choose the color exactly to match your decor or use up scraps of wool that you have left over from other things. Saving you even more money.
Nightstands
I have no idea why nightstands are so expensive, but they are. Especially if you are looking for solid wood ones that match the rest of your bedroom furniture. That is why I say no to the nightstand and go for a must more budget-friendly option instead.
This involves picking out two matching side tables. Either retro styled ones, metal wire tables with wooden tops, or tray tables and using these instead. They look modern, up to date and aesthetically pleasing, and you get can both for under a hundred dollar. Less than the cost of one single traditional nightstand, so they are a great bargain.
Vanity
Us girls need somewhere to do our makeup in the morning, and if we haven’t got space for a vanity in the bathroom, then the bedroom is the place to put it. The problem is, of course, that like nightstands a vanity can be a costly investment and seriously eat into your budget. Most don’t come with matching stools either so that just adds insult to injury because you have to pay out again for this!
Now you may think that it’s worth paying out a little more for a vanity that you love. As it’s an investment piece for the room, and if that is the case, it’s absolutely fine. However, if you struggling with your budget, there is a quick and cheap way to get an attractive looking modern vanity.
All you need to do is install a wide wall shelf down low. You can measure where it needs to be by taking a seat and judging a comfortable height. Then get a cheap mirror and wall mount this over the shelf, find a seat or stool, and you’re sorted. You have a place to put your makeup and products, and mirror to see yourself in and for around $50. Try and find a proper set for that price, I dare you!
Curtains and window dressing
Lastly, to truly blitz your bedroom you will want to sort the curtains or window dressings. Again to save a few bucks, it can be really useful to use the auction site for preloved items that people no longer want.
After all, most curtains don’t get too much ware so you can get something of really high quality for a knockdown price. Just be sure to have the right measurements. Otherwise, they won’t fit, and as they are second hand, you can’t return them. Meaning you would end up wasting our money, rather than saving it.
