Summertime is here. It’s totally hot outside and the kids are craving ice cream! Ice cream is in no way a daily indulgent in our house. It’s a special treat, so it is not purchased on every shopping trip. This makes it that more special for the kids without them over doing it (or me rather).
We headed to Walmart to do some grocery shopping, I was side tracked by looking at a bunch of things! You can see our shopping trip on intersect.
I had totally planned on making pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, but my pain got the best of me so we decided on the quickie BBQ alternative. Yep, Sloppy Joe’s! It’s a mom’s easy way out. Lauren made me say “Grab yer buns, it’s Sloppy Joe night!”
We didn’t skip out on true BBQ fare all together though. The girls and I made two types of coleslaw. The first was just a traditional style coleslaw. The second is my favorite coleslaw ever! It’s made with ramen noodles. YES I said RAMEN and it is totally addictive.
What you need:
- Bag of cabbage shreds for coleslaw (we shred our own)
- 1 pkg Ramen noodles (chicken flavor)
- Canola Oil
- 3-4 green onions
- small pkg of slivered almonds
- Sesame seeds
- Butter
Instructions:
First let your little ones bust up the Ramen noodles in a bowl. You don’t cook them, leave them crunchy!
While they are occupied doing that, you need to melt a little butter in a skillet and saute your almonds and sesame seeds til lightly browned.
When those are done place them in the bowl with your Ramen, add your green onions and then dump your cabbage on top. Take the seasoning pkg from your Ramen and add it to 1/2 Cup Canola Oil and mix well. Once mixed dump this in the bowl and stir well. Place in the fridge. The longer it sits, the better it tastes. Mmmmmhmmmm!
Seriously, it’s awesome! You must try it!
We were shocked by the variety Nestle has in the ice cream department! Normally we get the old fashioned Nestle Drumsticks. I guess I never really looked before. The variety had my children’s eyes popping out of their heads. I had to let them pick two new kinds to try out.
See what I mean? The girls chose two different kinds to try…
Look at Emma’s face! She thought the little ones were just perfect!
So like I said, it was a bad pain day so we made Sloppy Joe’s and Cole Slaw for our BBQ meal! Quick and easy and no oven required on this hot Texas day!
Goofy Kids!
After dinner it was ice cream time!
We loved the new to us varieties of the Nestle Drumsticks! Jeremy even ate 2! It exceeded my expectations and I think that we will forgo the old school drumsticks from now on and buy theses fancy ones instead! They are an excellent treat on a hot summer day! The varieties in one box are enough to make sure everyone gets a favorite! That means no fighting and that rocks my day!
This shop has been compensated as part of a campaign for Nestlé. All opinions are 100% my own.

I’m amazed at the variety of Drumsticks available; enough to take up a whole freezer case.:) I need to try some different flavors too.
