Baking Bread at Home, The Better Option

02.05.2019 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

You know, it is crazy how fast time flies.  I just realized that since we have been in our current house, I have not been baking bread at home.  That is nearly six years and kind of blows my mind!  The girls and I were always baking bread at home before we moved here.  I think I let one part of life take over too much of our living life.

There truly is nothing homier than baking bread at home.  The smell, the taste, the feeling of accomplishment by creating something for your family.  We even always made our own pizza dough.  Now, I do have to admit that I always used a bread maker for baking bread at home.  I also used it to prepare dough for other things.

I have a wonderful pizza dough recipe that we would put in the bread maker on the dough setting.  As soon as I make it again I will be sure to post the recipe here on the blog.  You can make it all in a bread machine and then package it in balls in the refrigerator or freeze to use later on.

For someone like me that has issues with her brain and ability to move, a bread machine is a must.  I don’t have to mess with the rising times, the baking, the forgetting.  Nope, a bread machine can do it all for me.  I assume some people probably think that is cheating, but to me, it is more efficient and safer.  Plus it allows me to save that energy for something else.  So basically I am delegating that task to the machine, so I can pace and save the energy to prepare other parts of dinner for my family.

Personally, I have never used the boxed bread machine mixes.  I have always done that part from scratch, which is super cheap and easy.  I love adding herbs to my loaves of bread and using real butter on those hot slices right after baking.  There is nothing like fresh sliced bread that you made at home.

Oh, I just remembered there was an awesome breadstick dough we used to make in the bread machine as well.  Man, memories, I need to get baking!  I do think it is time to upgrade the bread maker though.  I’ll need to research bread machine reviews since things have changed a lot since I purchased mine many years ago.

Incorporating this back into our weekly routine would be good for us.  Some fun bonding time and also budget friendly!  Making family meals feel more special and complete.  Making your home smell inviting.  You can even make homemade gifts of bread to give friends and family.  I can promise you most people would enjoy that more than something store bought.

You can buy ingredients in bulk to save more money if you plan to bake weekly.  This will bring the cost down even more and you will also have everything you need on hand to be able to provide fresh food for your family whenever you want.
