Have You Ever Taken a Bad Fall?

02.11.2019 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

I’m kind of not a great walker.  Walking is my nemesis.  I try, but it just isn’t my thing.  Add in the dangers of society, like wet floors, pushy people, messy stores, and you can have a dangerous situation prime for a bad fall.

We have a store here in the next town over, that is the only close thing for quick runs.  Every time I go in there I risk falling.  I have even taken photos of the store and posted them to the company and not once have they reached out to resolve the situation.  I can not even take my walker through this store, let alone my wheelchair.  I’m not quite sure what I should do next, maybe reach out to the ADA?

Anyhow, a bad fall can be very dangerous, especially for someone like me that already has a ton of issues.  A simple fall that may not be a big deal for some, can be a huge set back for others.

It is important that businesses take the steps to make falls less likely.  This includes keeping aisles clear of boxes, product, debris as well as making sure the floors are dry and if not dry, then blocked off with wet floor signs.

It is really hard to look at the floor and know that it is wet and slippery sometimes.  It doesn’t take much liquid to make it a dangerous slippery situation and cause a bad fall.

In fact, when I was still living in Florida, I took a bad fall in a grocery store.  In hindsight, I should have gone to get checked out and I probably should have contacted a slip and fall attorney Tampa.  Who knows how that probably added to the conditions and handicap I have now.  Yes, I was already dealing with my medical issues at that time, but that was probably another push in the direction of progression.

At that time I was still doing relatively well with no spread, so I really didn’t know the severity of what was going on with my body.  A simple twist of the ankle is enough to trigger a life long chronic pain condition.  Sounds crazy right?  Well, it is a very scary truth that some of us face.

My life was forever changed from a girl landing on my head and neck in a swimming pool.  I did not realize how much until much later in life because I adapted to that change and injury.  The pain became my daily norm.  Then the spread started as an adult.  Little by little.  Small injuries here and there that just progressed until where I am today.  I have full body RSD (CRPS) and while it is still considered a rare condition, it does happen and it is not the feel lucky winning the lottery type of rarity.

Life can change in an instant.  Take care of yourself.  If you are injured because of someone’s negligence, please do not hesitate to get checked, get help and if needed get an attorney.  We only get one body, one life.
