When I was pregnant with my girls I didn’t know too much about Cord Blood and the benefits it could have. Now I hear about it all the time and if I could go back, I would totally do it!
Have you done it? Are you pregnant? Have you considered it? Do you know much about it?
Cord Blood Banking is taking the umbilical cord stem cells and freezing them. The healthy blood-forming cells are stored this way and can help someone that needs them. It can help patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and certain inherited metabolic or immune system disorders. You can read more about the benefits by visiting http://bloodcell.transplant.hrsa.gov/CORD/index.html.
Cord Blood Registry is the world’s largest stem cell bank. I have read that they are the preferred choice by OB’s and Gynecologists. Cord Blood banking has been available since 1995. Cord Blood Registry has banked cord blood for more than 350,000 newborns! That is impressive!
It isn’t painful for anyone. It’s actually collected after the umbilical cord has been cut. Whatever blood is left in the cord is collected and this can be done after a vaginal birth or C-section. It only takes about 5 minutes!
Cord Blood Registry offers a free information kit! Be sure to get yours so that you can learn more about this great resource for health!

I think every mother should be opting to store her baby’s cord blood. As it is, the cord blood will be thrown away if you do not agree (or have no knowledge) about the donation. And if you cannot afford private storage, you can always opt for public donation as it is free of cost
