Adopting German Shepherds in Texas

10.15.2018 by Girl on Fire // 7 Comments

Working in animal rescue by fostering and donating photography for shelters and rescues, I have noticed that here in Texas we have a variety of dogs for adoption.  Purebred dogs, getting left behind on a daily basis.  I have relatives up north and they are shocked by the breeds I share that need homes, they don’t see these breeds in their shelters and rescues very often.  One breed that I have always loved is the German Shepherd.  Sometimes the hard part is tracking down where these dogs are, however, you can find breed specific information on adopting from rescues online pretty easily.  Adopting German Shepherds doesn’t have to be a difficult task though.  For instance, you can adopt a German Shepherd in Dallas through Get Your Pet.  You can also use them to help rehome your pet if something has happened that requires this.

Adopting German Shepherds

Just like people, pets don’t always mesh with everyone they meet.  I mean, I don’t like everyone I meet, so why should an animal be expected to be happy with just any human?  Sometimes life can change in a heartbeat.  A medical emergency for instance and you can no longer take care of your furry family member.  Get your Pet can help in these situations as well.  It happens.

Adopting German Shepherds

The German Shepherd is a beautiful dog.  They have made great family dogs for many and are loveable while also being protective.  My Great Aunt had German Shepherds and I fell in love with each of them.  They were always so smart and easy to train.  Loved to play, go for rides in the car and made me feel safe.  Be sure to read up on the health information of the breed as well.

I do not have a German Shepherd myself, but maybe one day I will be adopting German Shepherds as well.  I had considered one for my Service Dog, however doing mobility work I decided to choose a larger dog, the Great Dane.  The size of the Great Dane is more suitable for the job I need done.

Adopting a dog is an amazing feeling.  Your new dog will love you unconditionally and you will be ultimately saving a life.  Almost all of our dogs have been rescued from the streets, bad home life or adopted from shelters and local rescues.  Molly is our Tea Cup Chihuahua and we rescued her in 2012!

Tell me, what is your dream dog breed?

German Shepherds are indeed beautiful dogs. My aunt has an 8 year old Shepherd and she is unbelievably protective of my aunt, it’s so sweet to witness 🙂

German Shepherds are such a misunderstood breed. So pretty, just needs a lot of space to get their energy out!

My dream dog is a collie! I’ve always had a lot of dogs growing up, and our collie was really something special. They bark a lot and shed a ton, but they’re really so sweet and the right amount of protective!
