I believe that a homeschool family is a prime candidate to run a successful home business. Why? Because a homeschool family is already geared toward being independent and working on their own. A homeschool mom has to prepare lessons and reports and doesn’t have anyone looking over her shoulder to make sure she gets it done.
Homeschooled kids usually are good at working independently. They have a certain maturity not always found elsewhere. These traits are essential to being successful at running a home based business. You need to be able to manage your time and work on your own to get done what is needed.
A home business can be a huge blessing to a homeschool family as it will allow them some extra income that can ease the financial burden that can be so common today. It also is a wonderful way to teach your teens practical business skills. Having a home based business can be a wonderful experience for your teens. What better way to teach them entrepreneurial skills than to have them start a home based business? You can be right there to guide and help them. You could use this as a practical way to teach business and give them academic credits for operating the business. By offering your teens this option, you are opening up to them a world where they can make their own choices, be their own boss, and provide a way for them to have options when they have their own family.
By helping your teens start their own home based business, they can have a choice in whether they pursue a college education or not. Many times, teens will opt to go to college because they do not know what else to do. If they find a business they really enjoy, it could eliminate the need for college. Many may still want to go, but you have offered them options. If they do go to college, they will most likely be ahead of many of their classmates in their leadership skills, maturity, and money and time management.
Moms and Dads can also benefit from having a home business. It can offer them a way to pursue their interests and at the same time make some extra money for the family. By building a business through the homeschool years, it can be ready to greatly supplement the income or support the family later on.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Laurie. A home based business has been a goal/dream of ours for several years. We had one failed business venture that never really took off, but it did take care of itself. Right now besides little jobs I can give my children, I am running my business on my own.

Great post! And so true. As someone who coaches people who work from home, this is really an “outline”, and great start to getting early entrepreneurship started! Well done!

Hey! I completely agree and actually know a couple family homeschool families who have started and kept home businesses and it has really worked for them it seems. They feel more freedom, and stability and feel they have the opportunity to live the way they want. I think that it is a wonderful thing!
