7 Ways to Turn on the Romance This Christmas

09.19.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Romance This Christmas

From “White Christmas” to “Love Actually,” movies make Christmas seem like not only the most wonderful time of the year, but the most romantic time, too. This year, you have a special someone in your life and wouldn’t mind adding a little romance to your holiday festivities. But how do you turn a holiday that’s filled with to-do-lists and social obligations into one where love actually is all around you. Here are seven ideas for capturing some of that Christmas romance for you and your love.
Romance This Christmas

1. Make a romantic advent calendar.

A traditional advent calendar counts down the 25 days in December before Christmas and holds little treats or tokens for each day before the holiday. Instead of candy or toys, put a romantic twist on yours by adding little notes that give one reason you love your partner for each day. Create the calendar together and fill it with a month of small romantic gestures (i.e. “today we’ll trade back massages,” “today let’s have hot chocolate by the fire”). Maybe add in some human pheromones to really turn things up!

2. Fill your home with lights.

There is nothing more festive than Christmas lights, but lights can add some romance, too. Go beyond the traditional window and roof trimming and fill your backyard with twinkling strands of lights. The act of putting the lights up will bring you together, and the end result will be a romantic oasis for the two of you.

3. Do holiday chores together.

There are some holiday tasks you can’t avoid: wrapping presents, sending cards, etc. Turn those ho-hum obligations into a romantic date night for two. Turn on the Christmas carols, open a bottle of wine and make it an occasion.

4. Exchange romantic ornaments.

Trimming the tree together is already a great way to amp up the love-y vibes, but take it up a notch by exchanging ornaments. The ornament could be something sentimental that represents your year together — a homemade craft or a silly inside joke. Present them to each other while you decorate the tree and give them a spot of honor, right up front, so you’ll be reminded of your partner’s thoughtfulness all season long.

5. Spend a cozy night watching movies.

Infuse your holiday season with romance by cuddling up with your sweetie in front of your favorite romantic Christmas movie. Whether you’re a sucker for the classics (“White Christmas” or “It’s a Wonderful Life”) or love a cheesy Hallmark holiday made-for-tv movie, the romance on-screen will surely inspire romance off-screen.

6. Get away together.

Even if you can’t (or don’t want to) avoid holiday obligations, make time to get away, just the two of you. You could spend a romantic weekend at nearby bed and breakfast, or go out to a nice dinner followed by a stroll to admire your area’s best Christmas light displays. Whatever you do, just make sure to find time to connect with each other before you’re overwhelmed by other obligations and other people.

7. Take advantage of the mistletoe.

Hang a sprig or two of mistletoe around the house and then use it. The reminder to stop and show affection will be useful when you’re feeling the stress of the holiday season. And maybe leave it up even after Christmas is over… because who doesn’t love an excuse for a kiss?
