5 Creative Ideas to Bring Nature into Your Home

03.13.2018 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Looking to give your home a fresh, nature-themed makeover, or just want to make that dreary home office of yours a bit more welcoming and adventurous at the same time? If yes, then these creative ideas that are sure to bring a bit more of the outdoors into your home may just be what you need.

Use window treatments made from natural materials

Nature

Window treatments are products that you use to frame or cover your windows with, and these include items such as shades, blinds, curtains, and drapes. By choosing window treatments made out of natural materials, such as bamboo blinds, linen curtains, or natural cotton drapes, you can give your house or room a more natural flair.

Add plant life to flat surfaces such as tables and desks

Nature

Okay, this may not be the most creative idea we have on this list, but it’s also one of the simplest and easiest ones you can do to bring some greenery into your home. But if you’re not into flowers or ferns, then you can make things a bit more interesting by furnishing your home with bonsai trees instead.

Bonsai trees are basically plants that have been made to grow in tiny, plant pot-sized versions of fully-grown and even aged trees through careful pruning and other techniques. If you’ve ever wanted to have a huge, adult tree in your home but you don’t exactly have the space for it – and who does? – then a bonsai tree is perfect for you. It can be a great conversation starter and living room centerpiece too!

Make a sandbox for your home office desk

Nothing takes us back to the beach faster than the comfortable feel of fine beach sand under our feet and between our toes. Preserve this feeling and take it with you even when you’re hard at work by building a sandbox for your home office. It’s a relatively simple thing to do—just make an actual sandbox, fill it with fine beach sand, plop your workstation onto it, and off you go.

You may have to deal with bills and paperwork all day, but at least you’ll always feel like you’re away on vacation as you work on your sandbox. Just remember not to spill anything wet in the sandbox. Otherwise, you may end up tracking muddy sand all over the house.

Get a living moss shower mat for your bathroom

It’s just like what you think it is—a shower mat for when you have to get out of the shower and dry your feet on, but instead of something made from cotton or wool it’s made out of living moss. Not only does it look good, but it actually feels good on your feet, too. It also has the added effect of making you feel like you’re stepping away from a mountain spring bath with every shower.

Do note that while you can purchase one for use right away, they can be a bit on the pricey side, so you might want to try making one of your own. There are guides all over the internet on how to make one, and the moss plugs that you’ll need for the actual moss-growing process are available from specialty nurseries and gardening stores. Just remember to mist your shower mat every now and then, as the water it gets every time you use it may not be enough for it to survive. Make sure to keep your pets away from it, too!

Make an herb garden in your kitchen

Nature

If you use herbs in your cooking but hate how expensive they can be these days, then why not start growing your own in your very own kitchen? Either put a few small pots of choice herbs here and there, or go all out and have a mini-garden built right into the wall where the spice rack used to be. Whichever you choose, you won’t only be bringing the exotic scent of fresh herbs into your home, but also give yourself the luxury of having fresh herbs whenever you need it.

These are just some of the creative ways you can bring nature into your home and give it a more relaxing and welcoming feel. If some of these look too expensive or too much of a strain for your budget, remember that you can always shop around for cheaper deals, or even do it yourself if you want a fun weekend project.
