Car trips can be long and boring. If you don’t believe it is healthy to watch eight hours of television on the road, these five easy games will help pass the time:
1. Name That Tune

This is the perfect game for parents with sleeping kids. Once you’ve climbed into your lovely family car from pitrebuickgmc.com, the kids are asleep and you are bored out of your mind. So find a radio station with a type of music you and your spouse love. It could be a Top 40 station, oldies, etc. Whenever a new song starts, you have to be the first one to guess the name of the song and the artist. You can take the game round by round with every song, or you can keep track of who guesses it first.
2. The Alphabet Game

If you are out of good radio stations or if the kids wake up, play this game. The goal is to find every letter of the alphabet in order from A to Z. Your opponents are every other person in the car. Billboards, license plates, road signs, and any other words and letters outside the car are free game. This game goes fast in the city, but once you hit the middle of nowhere, it can eat up a good hour or so.
3. 20 Questions
Think of a person, place, or thing. The person can be someone sitting in the car with you, Abraham Lincoln, or a fictional character, just as long as everyone would know who it is. Everyone else gets 20 yes/no questions and one guess per question to figure out who or what it is. If nobody gets it, you win!
4. Count the…

You pick something and count how many you see throughout the trip. If you are heading through Wyoming, count antelope. If you are in the south, count Waffle Houses. Other favorite items to call could be cows, VW beetle cars, or semi trucks. The list is endless! The best part of the game? You can pick it up off and on for the whole trip.
5. The Grocery Game

This is actually much more about memory and the alphabet than it is about groceries. The first player says, “I went to the grocery store and bought…” and then they list an item that starts with “A.” Apples, for instance. The next person then says, “I went to the grocery store and bought apples and…” and then they list a grocery store item that starts with “B.”
The game continues with each member listing all previously listed items in alphabetical order and then adding an item that begins with the next letter. If you forget an item, you are out!
There are dozens of other games that involve storytelling, good memory, and geography. What games do you play on a road trip?

What a lot of great ideas for keeping the kids busy on road trips. I love the grocery store game. Not only is it a perfect game for the kids but a great game for grandma too.
