3 Historical Places to Visit in Dallas

12.31.2020 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

They say everything is bigger in Texas – hats, boots, land, and most importantly, pride in the hearts of its residents. Real Texans know the history that made them the great state they are today, and on your next visit to Texas, you’ll see that history in full display everywhere you go, especially in the city of Dallas.

Dallas is a place that has the innate ability to keep up with modern times while still staying true to its roots. Check out a few of these incredible historical places and see why the Lonestar State and the Dallas/Fort Worth region hold an important place in American history.

Historical Places to Visit in Dallas

Heritage Village

Start your journey in Dallas Heritage Village, the most significant place in town when it comes to understanding the city’s great history. Here, you can see architecture erected during the Civil War era that still stands proudly today, such as the Millermore Mansion. It is the biggest historic mansion of its kind in the city and is said to be haunted by a female ghost.

The village is home to many family events and festivals each year that teach tourists and locals about the history of this area and its role in the community. Learn about life as an average Texan over 100 years ago, and gain a better understanding of how Dallas grew into the great metropolitan area it is today.

Old Red Museum

Just a quick drive from Heritage Village is the Old Red Museum. While this museum houses many exhibits that span the history of Dallas County, the real experience comes from the building itself. Formerly erected as the Old Red Courthouse in 1892, many of the original pieces still stand today, freshly restored for a new generation to enjoy, including the clock tower, the beautifully restored staircase, and the terra cotta figures that sit on top of the building.

Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe

Another breathtaking piece of architecture located in Dallas is the Cathedral Santuario de la Virgen de Guadalupe, the “Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.” This Roman-Catholic church was completed in 1902 as the new home for the first Catholic parish in the city of Dallas, which formed in the late 1800s. Take a bus tour of historic Dallas and get a view of the gorgeous exterior of the cathedral, or journey inside for a view of their massive pipe organ, still in its original state.

These are just some of the many historical places to visit in Dallas, but there are many more to enjoy during your time here. If you find yourself enchanted by the city, consider looking at Dallas houses for sale and make this iconic Texas city your new home.
