Pain has changed me. Some changes have been bad, some have been good. I’m sure you’re wondering what good could come from living with RSD (CRPS) the disease of constant pain?
The bad changes and the ones that are difficult to accept are the losses I have experienced by living with RSD.
I lost the ability to work as a tattoo artist. I lost the ability to draw and paint in the way that I could before. I lost the ability of having beautiful handwriting. I lost the ability to have my photography business. I lost the ability to drive distances greater than 10-15 minutes away. I lost the ability to enjoy live music. I lost the ability to work at a real job. I lost the ability to experience no pain. The losses are greater than this short list, but I think you get it.
I have also gained many things living with RSD.
I have gained stronger compassion. I have gained a stronger understanding. I have gained amazing friends that support me and care. I have gained the ability to not accept that RSD is the end of living a normal life…just a new normal. I have gained strength. I have gained determination. I have gained dedication.
