If your kids are anything like mine, then they love Alvin and the Chipmunks!  My girls are dying to see the newest movie with the Chipettes!  It is so cool to have your kids enjoy the same things that you did as a kid.

I think everyone that reads my blog knows how much my girls love to sing and dance.  They have been rockin’ it out to this CD ever since it arrived!

My favorite from the Cd is You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).  I love that song!  The girls love Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) the best.

My kids watched the Kid’s Choice Awards the other night and Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel beat out New Moon, The newest Transformers movie and even my old bud Wolverine!  Wow!  That shows you just how cool the Chipmunks are!  Years later and they have only gotten more cool!

The Squeakquel SoundtrackCheck out the track listing:

  5. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – The Chipettes

  13. We Are Family – The Chipettes & The Chipmunks
  14. No One – The Chipettes (feat. Charice)
  15. I Gotta Feeling – The Chipettes & The Chipmunks

I’ll have to get some video of the girls listening to this CD and post it up for you guys.  They sure do have some dance moves!

The girls have been blasting this every day in the living room.  Dancing is good exercise for the kiddos!  So not only are they getting up off their booties they are having fun!

You can get your own copy of the soundtrack by going to Amazon.com or iTunes.  Your children will love you for it!

I was hired by Warner Bros. to help spread the word about Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel Soundtrack.  All opinions are 100% my own.  You may or may not have the same opinions.

christineIn a recent episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine, I noticed a friend or two I used to have.  Not like literally noticed them in the show, but what the episode was about was so them!  Barb was complaining about how Christine is a flaky friend.  Christine was supposed to get immigration papers notarized for Barb to avoid her being deported.  Christine completely blew it off and put herself first.

My issues were not really a friend not following through, but basically a friend that did whatever they wanted without caring how it effected others around them.  We all have had flaky friends and crappy friends.  I myself am sometimes a flaky friend.  Not because I mean to be, but because I am extremely forgetful!

My recent friend issue was a great lesson for my kids.  The friend made me unhappy and stressed me and others around us out a lot.  Instead of continuing the toxic friendship I cut it off.  Flakiness I can handle, but toxic needs to kick rocks.  It’s pretty sad really.  Instead of taking it well she became something of a chigger…you know those little bugs that get under your skin and drive you batty? This taught my girls a good lesson in looking out for themselves and getting the negativity out of their lives! Life is too short to suffer through, be honest!  Get rid of those toxic friends!

Have you kicked your toxic friends to the curve?

hankThe J-man is an awesome dad.  He spends a lot of time with all of our girls and that time is priceless.  So many dads are non existent when it comes to quality time.  They are clueless on how to interact with their children.  I feel very lucky to have a great dad for my girls.

He is very positive in the advice he gives the girls.  I think his advice makes them self sufficient with an “I can do it myself” attitude! He doesn’t sugar coat and he doesn’t spoil.  He teaches my girls the value of hard work and that they can do anything they put their minds to.

abcRecently I was watching an episode of Hank.  In the episode he made his daughter get a job so that she could buy a computer. I thought this was great!  When his daughter finds out that they need one more employee she puts her dad on the spot.  T0 prove to his daughter that no job is menial, he takes the job!  I thought this was a great lesson!

You can catch Hank on ABC.com Wednesdays 8/7 Central.

What great advice or lesson has your dad given you?

looneyOur latest conversation is about making shopping fun as well as educational with the kids.  For us I make it a goal with my older daughter to save money while shopping healthy.  She knows that making things from scratch is usually the healthier and cheaper option.  The little ones have fun by helping to pick out their very own special fruits and vegetables.  They want to grow big and strong and know that healthy food will help them get there.

We always start in the Fruits and Veggies and work our way around.  I usually skip the cookie and soda aisles.

How do you navigate the grocery store with your kids?

looneyIt seems that some kids think that healthy foods are icky…ewwwww.  Why is that?  Is it from TV?  Parents?  Friends?  I’m thinking it is mainly friends.  Kids at school complaining about the good for you lunch their mom packed.  Sometimes it’s not cool to eat an apple, it’s much cooler to eat a brownie.  Do you think that is what they think?

My kids do not attend public school, but I have heard that they have vending machines there.  Do they have these at your child’s school?  Soda, Snacks and Candy?  How are you to know what your child is eating?

How do you ensure your kids are eating healthy at school. What are some of your kids favorite snacks?

looneyI want to focus this post on starting a conversation with you guys about healthy eating choices for kids.  I’m going to tell you to tell you what works for me and then I would love to hear what works for you.

At our house, I simply keep the junk out.  Yes, I do buy some goodies.  Trust me..the girls are not doing without.  These are treats…not an every day occurrence.  Some people add a desert to every meal they serve!  This is not good for kids.  It is teaching them very bad habits!

We also do not buy a lot of prepared convenience foods.  We cook most of our meals together.  Kids are much more interested in trying a new food if they helped prepare it.  When we had a garden, the girls were also more interested in eating the foods they helped to grow and pick.  It really does work.

Another way they try new and different healthy foods in Bento!  Bento is so much fun to make and eat.  If you have a picky eater this might be something  you should give a try.  It is basically turning food into edible art!  It’s pretty awesome!

looneyI’m one of the lucky ones…my kids love healthy, good for you foods! They love fruits and vegetables.  Of course, they love candy and junkie stuff too.  Things like that are not an every day staple though.  I try to keep a fresh choice of fruits and vegetables for the kids on hand at all times.

As things kick off with school and 4H more time is spent out of the home.  This can cause some challenges in providing healthy foods.  Unless of course I plan ahead.  Sometimes things are in such a rush that I don’t have time to plan ahead.  What am I supposed to do then?

For the next 5 weeks I will be working with the Warner Brothers “WB Word of Mouth Team” who have hired me to take part in the Looney Tunes Eating Right Kids program featured on Momlogic.com.  You can visit the Eating Right Kids page on Momlogic.com.  There you will find healthy recipes and more!8bff8a9018_SnkPk_GrpsChz
