Ok, so I’ll be honest and tell you up front that I am not a fan of ham.  I like bacon.  Wait.  I LOVE Bacon.  Ham…eh…

But!  My family loves ham.  They love ham like I love bacon.  So I won’t prevent them from eating it…ha.  You can check out our shopping trip and see what else we purchased in my Google+ album.

This recipe is for Cheesy Ham Rotini.

The Ingredients

DSC_0006

  • 1 16 ounce box of rotini
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pound ham we used Petit Jean Hickory Smoked Ham
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 small cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bunch green onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, we used 2%
  • 6 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided (or about 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese)
  • Leftover crumbled bacon (about 3-4 strips…more if you have it!)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350° and butter a 2-quart casserole.  Cook the Rotini according to the instructions.  While the Rotini is cooking prepare the other ingredients.

In a large skillet, heat 1 TBSP of butter over medium heat.  Add the celery and cook while stirring occasionally.  You only need to cook this  for about 5 minutes.
DSC_0003

Add the ham and cook just until the ham is lightly browned and celery is tender.
DSC_0005

Add the garlic and green onions and cook for about 1 minute longer.
DSC_0007

Remove this from heat and set aside.  Check your pasta!  There is nothing I hate more than slimy over cooked pasta!  Check it…I’ll wait….

If it’s done be sure to drain and rinse.
DSC_0004

In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the remaining butter. Add the flour and stir until blended. Add the milk being sure to stir! Do this until it has thickened up.
DSC_0008

Now you want to stir in the shredded Cheddar cheese, salt and pepper. Continue cooking until the cheese has melted.
DSC_0010
DSC_0011

Now add the rotini as well as the ham mixture to the cheese sauce. Stir it all up so that the cheese sauce has coated everything with its cheesy goodness. Now go ahead and stire in half of the Parmesan cheese.
DSC_0012

Now spread that in the buttered casserole dish.
DSC_0016

Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
DSC_0018

Now make it even better with bacon!  Crumble up some bacon and sprinkle it all over the top.  We had some left over from breakfast.
DSC_0019

Bake for about 20 to 30 minutes, until bubbly and lightly browned.
DSC_0020

Now dish it out and feed the masses…

I ate this and even had seconds!  That says a lot!

Don’t waste your money on useless gifts!  Get your friends and family things they can use every year! Something that becomes a tradition to bring out every Christmas season!

At Walmart you can find a great selection of Better Homes and Gardens Holiday products that would make fantastic gifts!  Not only are they useful and pretty…they are also affordable!

I went to Walmart with a mission!  A mission to buy gifts that were affordable.  My goals were a $5 gift, a $10 gift and a $20 gift! The only thing that was hard about my mission was making my final decisions!

I think everyone likes gifts that make their home smell great!  So my first choice was a Better Homes and Gardens scented holiday jar candle. The scent is Classic Frosted Gingerbread and boy does it smell great!  What an awesome gift for only $5!
DSC_0002
DSC_0003

Next up was my $10 gift choice!  I choose a Better Homes and Gardens Decorative Holiday Bowl.  This would be great as a serving bowl, or to load up with Apples on the table!  Maybe even filled with those Cinnamon Pine Cones…Jeremy said it needs to be filled with Mashed Potatoes!
DSC_0005

The last gift I chose was for the $20 gift.  I decided to make this a combined product gift!  This is my favorite out of everything so far.   For $15 I found a beautiful Santa Claus Scented Wax Warmer from Better Homes and Gardens. Then for $2 each I purchased 3 different Scented Wax Cubes from Better Homes and Gardens.  The scents I chose were all Holiday scents.  Vanilla Cinnamon Sugar, Warm Apple Cider and Snowy Evergreen Forest.

So what do you think? I know I would be thrilled to get any of these as gifts!  So no matter what your budget is, they have something that will fit right for you!

Be sure to head over and like Better Homes and Gardens on Facebook to see what else they have to offer this Holiday Season!

I received Walmart gift cards to cover the cost of the shopping trip.  No compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Until my Suburban is fixed we are stuck with one car.  This means I can not go do any shopping until after Jeremy gets home.  That has been pretty late here recently.  Tuesdays are our American Heritage Girls nights and Jeremy was still not home by the time we left which was at 6:30.  Thankfully we had a friend give us a ride tonight.  This left me with a late night shopping trip to Walmart though.  Morgan and I were already hungry…

What better late night snack than Cheese and Crackers.  I’m not talking just your average Cheese and Crackers.  I’m talking about awesome yummy crackers with those fantastic cheese balls!  Every winter I keep the cheese balls around.   Oh man, they are so good!

First of all, normally I just pick up some Ritz Crackers and Wheat Thins.  Wheat Thins are my favorite!  But tonight I went for something a little different.  I didn’t even know that Walmart carried Pepperidge Farm Crackers!  Well, they do!  They actually have a pretty huge selection of Crackers!  So I picked up the Cheese Crisps in 4 Cheese Italian Herb Flavor.
IMAG1849

I also grabbed my favorite, just in case I didn’t like the new cracker.  That favorite is Wheat Thins
IMAG1848

We also grabbed a cheese ball as well as a cheese log!  You can never have enough of this stuff on hand!

We finished our shopping and headed home.  You can see what else we got by visiting my Google+ Story!  Once home, Morgan and I were starved so we broke out both boxes of crackers and then the Smoky Bacon Cheese Ball.

Here are the Wheat thins on the right and the Pepperidge Farm Cheese Crisps in 4 Cheese Italian Herb Flavor on the left.

Just looking at the Pepperidge Farm crackers I could tell they were going to be amazing.  Part of me feels like they are a bit familiar, like I’ve had them before.  Morgan and I topped both crackers with the Smoky Bacon cheese.

Both were great, but those Pepperidge Farm crackers had that extra zing.  Yum!  I think I’ll serve both at my next get together!

We celebrate everyday here at our house!  Life is too short to not celebrate!  So why not make a weekly gourmet style dinner?  We deserve it right?  Let’s celebrate because life is a special occasion!

Morgan and I headed out to Walmart for some fun one on one time and to pick up the ingredients for our special dish. You can view our trip by clicking over to the shopping story I posted on Google+.  The first sight that greeted us as we walked through the door was a Christmas Tree!  Eeek!  Already? I still need to get the Halloween Candy!  Then Thanksgiving and my birthday!  (November 28th, if you were wondering…I love Amazon Gift Cards!)

For this recipe I am using a Sausage from Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations!  It has Bacon in it!  Who could say no to that?

So on with the recipe!  The delicious sight you see below is what we are making!
Finished!

The ingredients:

Ingredients

  • Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Beef & Bacon Sausage
  • Bunch of Green Onions
  • Small Onion
  • Clove of Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Sea Salt
  • Linguine
  • Shredded Parmesan Cheese

The instructions:

Put a pot of water on to boil for cooking the Linguine! While you wait prepare all ingredients as instructed below.

Slice the green onions, the small onion and chop the garlic. Set aside.
Onions and Garlic
Slice the sausage into bite size pieces. See those white chunks and the creaminess on the edges? That is Monterey Jack Cheese! It is all through the sausage!
Sausage
Sliced Sausage
Your water should be boiling by now, so go ahead and add your linguine. I add a splash of olive oil to my water.  Cook linguine as directed on the box.

Prepare a skillet by heating up 2 tablespoons of olive oil.  Add the sliced sausage to the hot oil and lightly brown.  Once it begins to brown add 1/4 to 1/3 cup olive oil and the remaining ingredients.
Cooking
Simmer until the onions have softened.  This allows the flavors to infuse in the olive oil!  You can add a bit of italian seasoning if you like at this point…I did!  I also add sea salt at this point.
Cooking the "sauce"
mmmmmm

Mmmmm…..now stir this mixture into your cooked linguine and mix well, being sure that the oil coats the pasta evenly.

Serve topped with shredded Parmesan cheese and garlic bread.

Now this is the part where you eat entirely too much food.
Yum!

Since we rent I have never taken the time to decorate our home.  I just don’t feel like it’s home…

After making over my bathroom though I am inspired to do the same with the rest of our house!  Is it weird that I just want to hang out in there now?  I keep walking in and looking around and can not believe the difference!  I didn’t even paint!  I don’t want to have to paint it back to the neutral color before we move.

So below you will see how our bathroom looked before the make over.  It’s pretty depressing…however I did like my shower curtain that I picked up from Walmart not too long ago.

It’s not pretty…

Told ya!  See that roll of toilet paper on the tank?  That is because our toilet paper roll holder was not holding it anymore!  It kept falling out!  So that is one thing I wanted to replace.  Ok, now see that basket on the back of the toilet that has a bit of everything in it?  Well that is because we have no storage!  Look at that ugly towel bar…every time I put a towel there the whole thing would fall off the wall.  Also, notice how high the hand towel hanger is, how the heck are my kids supposed to reach that?

I needed a bathroom makeover badly!

Thanks to Better Homes and Gardens I got it!  All of the products can be purchased at Walmart!  Everything we did to the bathroom was less than $200! It was super easy with help from my husband!  He did all the assembly.

Check out the after photos…
After Bathroom Makeover!

I love it! We need to buy a new toilet seat still.  I wish there was something I could do about the medicine cabinet and the sink cabinet.  But, it isn’t my house…

I still can not believe the change for less than $200!  I chose to add color to the wall by using the print towels.  Since I can’t paint this was a great alternative for me.  We hung one towel bar very high on the wall and then below it we hung the smaller towel bar for hand towel.  This way our girls can easily reach the hand towels without pulling down the bath towels to use.

I love the cabinet over the toilet.  This makes such a difference and added so much storage.  It also covered up the bare boring wall.  The toilet paper holder actually holds the toilet paper!  We also added a lotion pump to use as a soap dispenser and a concealed toilet bowl brush.

I am so happy with our bathroom makeover from Better Homes and Gardens!  Everything pictured is available at Walmart.com!

Guess what?  You can win your own bathroom makeover on a budget from Better Homes and Gardens!  You can enter on the Better Homes and Gardens Facebook page until September 18, 2011!  Make sure you enter!

I would love to know what you think of the new look I created for our bathroom makeover on a budget!

All Better Homes and Gardens products featured above were provided to me by Better Homes and Gardens to complete my bathroom makeover.  No money was received and all opinions are my own.

We had to run out to Walmart today to pick up somethings to bake with.  As usual we wandered around looking at everything before we actually made it to the grocery section!  I posted all of our awesome finds on Intersect.  By the time we made it over there my girls (and me) were starving!

Now a lot of parents would grab a bag of chips or candy at the counter.  Not me.  If we’re truly hungry, then the last thing I want to do is give my kids a sugar spike!

My family solves this problem of the grocery store snack attack with protein.  The easiest way to get a protein filled snack on the go is with beef jerky!
IMAG1054

Walmart has a huge selection of beef jerky, including their own brand.  Now, I purchase a lot of Walmart brands when I shop.  I have purchased the Walmart brand beef jerky and it just isn’t the same as the Jack Links brand.  It’s more chewy than I can handle.  See my teeth are not that great anymore and I need a tender beef jerky.  That is exactly what I get from Jack Links.  Now that is not to say that the Walmart brand isn’t any good…it is good.  Just not as tender.

I seen a new kind of Jack Links today.  One that I will definitely try when the kids are not with me.  Definitely would be too spicy for the girls.
IMAG1056

Nope. for the girls it has to be the Teriyaki!  It’s the one flavor that pleases everyone in my family!   Just look at goofy miss Emma!

Oral health care for my kids is so important to me!  In fact my girls have teeth brushing cards in with their daily chore cards so that I can see that they have brushed their teeth at the proper times.  With 3 kids it’s a lot to keep up with.

Knowing that my own teeth are falling apart (literally) due to medications and illness makes me even more aware of the importance of oral health care.  My daughter (Lauren, pictured above) is getting ready to lose her very first tooth!  That means her permanent big girl teeth are on the way, in fact one has already made an appearance!  See it? I’m so thrilled that I have gotten Morgan to let me take some photos of her.  Yes, I have resorted to bribery and blackmail.  Hey, it works!  Come on…I’m sure you have blackmailed or bribed your children atleast once right??

Walmart was having a huge sale on all of their Miley Cyrus line of clothing.  Everything was down to $3-$7!  She got a bunch of stuff for less than $40!  This made her extremely happy and she let it all shine in these photos.  I’m posting a few because I just couldn’t pick only one!

She was actually pleased with the pics as well!  Double score right?  Hopefully we can continue on with this trend!

I have no problem with blackmail and have the perfect photo to blackmail her with…she knows what it is!  So Morgan…if you are reading this…know that I have the power!!!!!!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I’m all about a great deal, most of the time I buy things used to save as much as possible.  But some things are harder to track down in good usable condition used.  In that case I usually turn to the internet to find the best savings.

I have found amazing deals on Amazon.  I also shop and compare and then look for Amazon coupon codes.  Sometimes these will give me a percentage off or free shipping!

Recently I got a fantastic deal on a blender from Walmart.  I researched price based on several discount sites, then found a Walmart discount to make the savings even sweeter!

With a little effort you can find a way to save on anything you purchase!  It is definitely worth the time to save!
