Archive for Lauren

I decided that this year I would participate in Annie Manning’s Let’s Do 52!  She has themes set for each week of the year and  I like the challenge that it creates for me.  This week the choice was Sharing or Natural.  I chose sharing.

It’s not to late to join up!  You can do this theme until Saturday and then a new theme will be posted.  You can set up a free account on flickr if you do not have an account already and then join her group.

The girls had a great time meeting up with their best friend Katie for some Frozen Yogurt!  They love getting to add all the toppings they want at these places!  I think we need to have these dates monthly!

There is so much going on as we get ready for Christmas!  I’m sure you all have been busy too!  We had rain for days and that kept us on lock down in the house.  Cabin fever set in and we all went crazy.  Look at Emma, she’s looking a bit rabid…

 We survived though.

Another thing that has happened is the American Heritage Girls awards ceremony.  Lauren and Morgan received a bunch of badges for their accomplishments.  Morgan dodged the camera, I did get this photo of Lauren’s vest covered in badges that she already had.  Now she has a ton more!

Scouting badges

Hmmmm, other things done this month?  I had a ton of Christmas Shoots!  One of my favorite boys to photograph is Jonah.  This time he brought a few of his furry friends…

I have been working even harder than usual lately.  Busy busy!  The girls surprised me with a tea party to have some down time and just hang out!  I needed it!  My girls are great!  We had tea and clementine oranges!  I hope you take a break from the busyness of the holidays!

Seriously, that is what the girls asked me today when we were outside playing.  ”Mom, can we please play in the sprinkler?” Just look at these faces!

Lauren says PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE!!!!!

Then she tries to plead her case on why they should be able to play in the sprinkler…The kid was totally trying to con me…

Then Emma gave me the look as she quickly turned her head, as if I was being so unreasonable!  Come on!
The look...geesh!

Then came the fake pouts from both of them!  They were trying really hard.  Sorry kids…No Sprinkler!  It’s almost Christmas!!

This was the tooth that just kept hangin’ on!  It was literally swinging by a thread for the last week.  Tonight though it finally came free!  This is the second tooth she has lost.  That other top front tooth is super loose and should be breaking free soon as well.

Lauren is going to get a little bit richer tonight!

Lauren has been discussing getting her ears pierced over the last two months.  I wanted her to be sure.  I wanted her to be prepared.

I don’t allow the girls to get pierced with piercing guns.  We have it done professionally with piercing needles that are hollow with a laser cut edge.  These actually cut the flesh away for the hole.  They do not rip, this leaves a clean cut for a better healing piercing.

To read more about how I feel about piercing please read this post I wrote about the dangers of “piercing guns”.

Piercing properly takes just a little time.  A child needs to be prepared so that they are not scared.  Lauren was getting her first holes and Morgan was getting new holes added.  There is a moment that the needle is through the ear and then the jewelry is pushed through after it.  It’s fairly quick.  There was no flinching, wiggling, crying or even the word ouch.

Please make an informed decision before having your child’s ears pierced.

Monday was my birthday.  I had saved up Amazon Gift Cards so that I could buy a new lens for my camera, I was only short $45 so that part was covered by my mom and dad as part of Christmas!  Thanks Mom and Dad!  I bought a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR!  It came Monday night and I was able to use it Tuesday for the first time!

It will definitely take some getting used to, I shoot a lot with my 300mm…so it’s a huge change!  Here are a few shots of my girls that I took with it yesterday.

Morgan got an awesome new hair cut!  I love it!

How was your Halloween? Are you children in sugar coma’s yet?  Have your husbands ransacked the candy bags?  My kids keep tricking me.  They know I am easily distracted.  When I am concentrating on something they ask me if they can have “…just one more piece?”  I unknowingly say “yea, sure“.  Totally taking advantage of their sick mama!

Seriously though, they haven’t tricked me too many times…but they sure keep trying!

They are sisters, they are best friends! They get a long so well and I hope they stay this close!  They do bicker at each other once in awhile, which is to be expected, but they LOVE to be together!  Makes my life a whole lot easier that’s for sure!

This is from the same day that we went to the Pumpkin Patch.  The photos below were taking at “Goat Man’s Bridge” or it’s proper name, Old Alton Bridge. It’s a pretty nice place to go, with a very long walking trail!  Sometimes you will see some horses on the trail, this day we were following horse tracks, trying to track them down haha!

Oh and we learned something that day!  Never kick a cactus! There was a group of kids hiking the trail and one of the boys kicked a cactus and it went right through his shoe and into his skin!  Ouch!

It had been a long time since Jenny and I just got to go out with our cameras and wander (drive and walk) aimlessly looking for those special places that called us to photograph them.

This time we took Lauren and Emma along with us.  Morgan and Hanna were too busy being “teenagers” to be bothered to come along.  So we packed up the little ones and began to drive.

We hit a “pumpkin patch”, the same one I took them to last year.  It is run by a church youth group and all the proceeds go to their mission trip. They have a huge selection of pumpkins for a great price!
Pumpkin Patch Time! One of the first things we saw was this pumpkin that looks as though it has dreadlocks! I almost bought it!  I figured I could through a Rasta hat and some Patchouli on it and be set…right?

dreadlock pumpkinFor some reason the girls were under the impression that we were going to purchase some gigantic pumpkins this year.  This one was big enough for Lauren to hide behind. First of all, I couldn’t have carried it, second of all…that is a whole lot of pumpkin guts!

This one looks a little more like what we need!
This pumpkin is a bit more perfect!

I think Emma loves this pumpkin!  What do you think?

Ok, the Cupcake Costume was super sweet on Emma right?  But check out this super adorable costume on Lauren! It is the Octopus Costume, $39.99 from Pottery Barn Kids!

She loves the costume! Just like the Cupcake Costume you can wear this over a long sleeved shirt and leggings to make it warmer.  Or you can wear it just over a shirt and leggings.  Again, this is a very well made costume!  I am so impressed with these kids Halloween costumes from Pottery Barn kids!

Lauren says “It’s so super soft!”  She loves the way it feels!  Two of the tentacles (where the arms are) have straps that fasten around the wrist so that your child can move the tentacles around.

She has been wearing and playing in this costume daily! Costumes are not just for Halloween!  We have tons of make believe going on over here!

Octopus Girl!

There’s nothing scary about this Pink Octopus costume!  Sooo fun!

Be sure to check out the Green Furry Monster Costume, $44.99!  Super cute!

I received the costume featured above from Pottery Barn Kids to facilitate this review.  No compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Sweet Shot DayI have a ton of shots I would like to post for my Sweet Shot Tuesday!   However, I will be strong and refrain and save some for tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

Lauren and I went on a Photo walk together.  She loves to take photos just like me.  I really do think she is this miniature little version of me.  She loves every form of art and she is very good at it too.

While on our walk we seen some pretty cool things.  It was a beautiful day and we walked all the way to the lake and back.  Here are some of my photos from the walk.

Sweet Shot Day

I love that the weather is beginning to change to fall.  After having a summer that pushed 110 almost everyday keeping us on lock down in the AC, we are thrilled to get some out door time.  On a recent walk we found a parking lot painted for Hop Scotch!  The girls (and even daddy) had a blast shopping off there hop skips and jumps!

This is Lauren showing off some mad skills!
